After the New York Yankees extended a qualifying offer to Juan Soto, General Manager Brian Cashman spoke with the media. In Tuesday’s press conference, the Yankees executive admitted having a conversation with Soto’s agent, Scott Boras.
Soto played a huge part in the Yankees’ first American League pennant title since 2009. Despite his heroics, he and his team fell well short in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Following the Game 5 loss, the 26-year-old revealed he was open to all 30 teams in the league.
In the conference, Cashman stated that the team was interested in re-signing Soto to the team. However, he also spoke about the prospect of losing him. This will likely force the team to take a step in another direction.
Brian Cashman said he spoke to Scott Boras yesterday about Juan Soto:

Soto’s free agency has sparked several rumors in the past few days. Apart from the Yankees and the New York Mets, the Dodgers, who beat Soto in the World Series, are said to pursue him if he seems interested.
Brian Cashman comments on New York Mets’ interest in Juan Soto
Like their cross-town rivals, the New York Yankees, the New York Mets face a troubling situation. One of their star players, Pete Alonso is also expected to hit the free agent if he declines the qualifying offer. This could lead the Mets to go for Juan Soto in the offseason. Brian Cashman commented on this as well.
Though the two players play in different positions, their hitting qualities could lift the team. When asked if there was a threat from the Mets to land Soto, Cashman just said he had no idea about it.
Brian Cashman was asked what kind of threat the Mets pose to sign Juan Soto:

Recently, this rumored move of Soto to the Mets sparked controversy on social media. In a post on X, Dan Clark claimed that the NY Mets have offered “Juna Soto” a massive 12-year deal, as per Jon Heyman. This led to Heyman blasting him as this news was false.
Clark would later seemingly admit that the post was made as a joke. In another post on X, he admitted that no other team could approach Soto yet and that “Juna Soto” was a fictional person.
The four-time MLB All-Star is expected to land a massive deal in the region of $500 to $700 million in the offseason. Which team will eventually end up paying that huge amount, though, remains to be seen.
