Brian Cashman addressed the media on Thursday. While speaking with the reporters, the New York Yankees General Manager expressed that team owner Hal Steinbrenner was frustrated with the team’s postseason failure. This comment from him did not sit well with the fans on social media.

After a strong start to the campaign, the Yankees stumbled a bit in the regular season. However, they were able to get themselves back up on their feet and finished the regular season with a 94-68 record.

As the Toronto Blue Jays held the tiebreaker, they went on to win the AL East title and earned a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the American League. The Yankees were forced to go into the AL Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox.

They would end up losing Game 1 after manager Aaron Boone took Max Fried out of the game. The Bronx Bombers, however, managed to come back from this setback and won Games 2 and 3, and eliminated their arch rivals.

This set up an ALDS meeting with the Blue Jays. The Canadian side continued its dominance over the Yankees and steamrolled over them in 4 games. They outscored them 34-19 in 4 games and registered 50 hits.

While speaking with the reporters following their elimination from the playoffs, GM Cashman expressed that Hal Steinbrenner was frustrated with the results. He was left disappointed and wants another championship in the Bronx.

The Yankees GM also shared a message to the fans. The 58-year-old claimed that they were just as “hungry” and “disappointed” with the outcome as they were.

The World Series drought now reaches up to 16 years for the Yankees. Since their triumph in 2009 against the Philadelphia Phillies, they have not won the championship.

Last year, they did reach the Fall Classic for the first time since that victory. The Los Angeles Dodgers eventually ended up dominating them and won their 8th championship following a comeback win in Game 5.

On X, fans attacked the two executives for this. Many questioned where Steinbrenner was throughout the season and why he did not attend the media day alongside Cashman. In the press conference on Thursday, Cashman expressed that Boone is one of the “better” managers in the MLB. He acknowledged that in the environment he was in, he would always be second-guessed regarding his decisions.

I think he’s a good manager. He’s one of the better managers. If he was out there right now, he’d get a job rather quickly. Because of our environment, he’s someone that can be second-guessed ten million times over. I don’t care who you put in that, it would be the same with whoever else is in there.

Brian Cashman told the reporters

Boone, who was appointed as the manager of the team in 2018, has a 697-497 record in the regular season. Following the postseason disappointment this year, he has a 25-27 record in the playoffs.

He will return to the position in 2026. After the team exercised its club option for 2025, it offered him a 2-year extension this year. This sees him under contract with the team until the 2027 season.
