On Thursday, Brian Cashman finally broke his silence. On the media day of the New York Yankees, the General Manager made his feelings known regarding the team’s performance this year. He would later hit back at Derek Jeter over his comments regarding the front office of the team following their American League Division Series (ALDS) exit.

Despite finishing with a similar 94-68 record, the Yankees were forced to play in the AL Wild Card Series due to the Toronto Blue Jays holding the tiebreaker over them. Not only did the Canadian side win the AL East, they also received a first round bye.

This saw the Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox in the best-of-three Wild Card Series. After losing Game 1, the Yanks managed to stage a comeback and won Games 2 and 3 to eliminate their arch rivals and move on to the ALDS.

In the ALDS, they got dominated by the Blue Jays and got outscored 34-19 in the 4 games. As the team struggled against them, several questions were raised about the management skills of Aaron Boone and the front office.

During the Fox Sports postgame show, former Yankees stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter had some bold words. Rodriguez first called Boone a “mouthpiece” of the team and claimed that he wanted to hear from Brian Cashman and Michael Fishman regarding the team’s decisions.

After the Game 4 loss, A-Rod once again went off on the front office. The 14-time MLB All-Star expressed that this was “one of the worst constructions of a roster” he had seen.

Jeter, meanwhile, expressed that he did not have any inner workings of the organization. He would defend Boone and claimed that he was not the one making managerial decisions.

On Thursday afternoon, Cashman would make an appearance at the WFAN Radio Show hosted by Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber. During this he would address the comments made by Jeter.

It’s not true, clearly. They don’t know. Clearly, they don’t know. I know DJ said that, I don’t know what he meant by it, he did say he doesn’t have inside knowledge when he said it, but he did say it, for whatever reason. And I think that’s the bugaboo that people get to throw out there when they got nothing else to throw.

Brian Cashman said on WFAN Sports Radio

Cashman would also call these comments from the former Yankees captain a “sad throwaway.” The 58-year-old added that Jeter did not really explain to him what he meant by those comments.

Brian Cashman admits Blue Jays rolled over the Yankees in 2025

The Toronto Blue Jays became a massive thorn in the side of the New York Yankees in 2025. On the media day, GM Brian Cashman admitted that the team struggled against them and expressed that their rivals rolled over them.

The Blue Jays were too strong for the Yankees this season. Following a midseason slump of the Bronx Bombers, the Blue Jays took over the division standings.

The Blue Jays also completed their first 4-game sweep of the Yankees at their home in Rogers Centre. They eventually went 8-5 in the regular season and held the tiebreaker over them. This saw them clinch the division title ahead of the Yankees.

In the postseason, the dominance continued. After emphatic wins in Games 1 and 2, they were leading 6-1 in Game 3 at one stage and were on the verge of sweeping the Yankees. However, a gritty comeback from their opponents enforced Game 4.

In Game 4, the Blue Jays once again started strong. Despite the Yankees fighting back and making it a 1-1 game, they would later implode and ended up losing 5-2 and suffering an ALDS exit.

While speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Cashman gave credit to their rivals and admitted that they were a problem for them in 2025.

We could not solve the Blue Jays this year. They rolled us in the regular season, they rolled us in the postseason.

Brian Cashman told the reporters

The Yankees’ World Series drought now reaches up to 16 years. Since their triumph in 2009 over the Philadelphia Phillies, the Yanks have not climbed the mountain top of MLB.

Speaking of the Blue Jays, their bats came alive in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) as well. An 8-2 win on Thursday has seen them tie the series at 2-2 after they lost the first two games.
