The New York Giants decided to bail on head coach Brian Daboll after nearly four seasons at the helm. His mismanagement of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart‘s concussion was seen as the final nail in the coffin.
The 25th overall pick looked like he suffered a concussion in the 2nd quarter, but was back in the 3rd before being finally pulled from the field in the team’s Week 10 game. Daboll admitted it was a mistake on the team’s part.
However, accusations were leveled that the 50-year-old sent Dart back in as he was trying to do his best to keep his job. Now, with him out, the hope is that the Giants can create a new culture.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan started to speak to team personnel and players, where he started to learn that Daboll’s mismanagement ran deeper than just his starting quarterback’s concussion.
One player recently told ESPN of Daboll exploding and threatening to take away playcalling from assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka after tight end Theo Johnson dropped a crucial third-down pass downfield against the Eagles.

The reporter also revealed that those sentiments were not just confined to this season. Brian Daboll’s lack of consistent decision-making over the past four years became an area of concern. It seems the Jaxson Dart decision became too negative for the Giants, as they were worried about the perceptions and narratives being painted outside their walls.
Brian Daboll’s mismanagement stopped Giants from flourishing
This season alone, Brian Daboll has had quite a few highlight reel-worthy situations that he would wish he had not partaken in. The way he chastised the medical staff when Jaxson Dart was being looked at was one of them.
Other than that, his tirades towards coaches and staff had become a constant point of worry. So much so that Raanan revealed that the front office had to listen in on Daboll’s communication with his coaches to see if he was not crossing the line.
Team sources have said the front office believed there was more talent than the club’s record showed.

This could be the reason why the Giants chose to keep Joe Schoen and remove the bad apple that Brian Daboll had become. His mismanagement was seen as one of the reasons the team failed to play to the best of their abilities.
For a team that has a plethora of young talent, like the Giants, their 2-8 record weighed heavily on their former head coach. Then there was the Daniel Jones part that impacted Brian Daboll‘s reputation.
Daniel Jones’ resurgence impacted Brian Daboll’s reputation
When Daniel Jones was run out of the New York Giants, everyone painted him as the reason for their bad run of games. This season, that narrative was thrown out of the window.

The Duke alum has been mentioned in the MVP race, and his Indianapolis Colts are 8-2. Along with his penchant for hiring and firing coaches, Jones’ resurgence was the one that shed light on Brian Daboll’s tendency to point fingers at others.
Giants owner John Mara had already given his former head coach and GM one year to prove their worth. After witnessing all that had transpired, it seems he had enough proof to realize that his head coach was not getting the job done.
Now, there is hope that Mike Kafka and the next head coach will be able to steer this franchise to where it wants to be. They have the players. All they need is the right captain to steer them.
