The New York Giants had a better start than most of their recent seasons. The Giants had a weak performance in the first game but rebounded with an explosive thriller in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Week 2 thriller had everyone grappling the edges of their seats as the two teams, the Big Blue and the Dallas Cowboys, traded the lead five times before the game edged into overtime. As Brandon Aubrey sealed the fate of the Giants, it also put the management under fire. The Giants head into Week 3 with a clash against one of the most prominent teams in AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The game is reportedly a do-or-die for Brian Daboll and Shane Bowen, whose careers are hanging by a thread. Making matters worse, reports suggest the Giants’ locker room already carries a sense that firings may be on the horizon.

The mood in the locker room has changed from trying to stay upbeat to the realization that the team must win, and win soon, or both could be out the door before the season ends.

Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda wrote about the Giants locker room after Week 2

The Brian Daboll era in New York hasn’t been ideal. Since starting Week 11 of the 2022 season at 7–2, the Giants have stumbled to an 11-32-1 record, a .250 winning percentage. Their offense ranks 30th both in EPA per play (-0.117) and success rate (39.8%).

Meanwhile, they’ve been outscored by 301 points from the start of 2023 through Week 2 of this season. The defense has crumbled in recent times, even in the last game, where they gave away 40 points. Even in the last play, the Giants knew exactly what was coming, a quarterback sneak designed to position kicker Brandon Aubrey for a game-winning field goal, yet they still couldn’t stop it.

Bowen, the Giants’ defensive coordinator, himself knows that there are shortfalls on his side. He later took accountability for the call.

All of us are accountable for it, right? To everything. Obviously, I’m accountable to that and that call. I told ’em, ‘I wish I woulda been a little bit tighter, made a little bit different call for you guys. I gotta be better, wish we would have been better.

Bowen told the New York Post

However, accountability might not save Bowen if the Giants lose the next game, if Pauline’s report is any indication.

Brian Daboll expecting the Giants to be more explosive and balanced

The Week 3 game between the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs is crucial for both teams. Both teams have lost their first two games of the season and will be looking to pick up their first wins. For Giants, the stakes are even higher.

Brian Daboll admitted that his offense can build on the vertical success it showed in last week’s win. Speaking with Giants.com, Daboll stressed that explosive plays are still the quickest path to points.

Explosive plays help an offense score, either by hitting for touchdowns or skipping difficult third downs.

Daboll is expecting quarterback Russell Wilson to perform as well as he did in the past game and use wideouts like Malik Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson to capitalize on the high-arc throws from Wilson. He is also planning to introduce personnel packages to spark the run game and praised the young rookies on their roster.

Daboll didn’t forget who their opponents are. He admitted that the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes in the center is a dangerous thing. Nonetheless, Daboll rests his hopes on the changes and improvements to give them the edge tomorrow.
