- Brian Schottenheimer compares Dak Prescott's leadership to that of Drew Brees, highlighting their similar qualities.
- The Cowboys aim to improve their performance after a disappointing previous season, focusing on both offense and defense.
- Jerry Jones suggests George Pickens could save money by negotiating directly with him instead of using an agent.
As Brian Schottenheimer heads into season two of his job as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, he knows he has to lead Dak Prescott and the rest of the team to take the next step.
The franchise fell way short of its goals last season despite starting well, which raised hopes that its league-leading offense would take them deep into the playoffs.
The lackluster performances from the defense were primarily the reason for that disappointment, but the head coach and the rest of the team would admit that even they did not perform their jobs to the fullest when it mattered.
By the time they reached their bye week, they were already playing catch-up to the rest of the league. Then, for them to lose four of their final five games was the final nail in the coffin.
The hope this time is that incoming defensive coordinator Christian Parker will help turn his unit around. But even then, the offense needs to do its part, and that is why Brian Schottenheimer expects Dak Prescott to be the leader who takes them into the next realm.
Drew Brees is one of the greatest leaders I’ve ever been around. And then I met Dak. And they’re on the same level. That’s a compliment to both guys.

The 52-year-old was suggesting that just as Drew Brees was a great leader, so is his quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. If anything, Schotty, as he is known, should be expecting Prescott to do the same that his former Hall of Fame QB did, lead the team to a Super Bowl.
Brian Schottenheimer sums up George Pickens’ impact in three words
During his conversation with Kay Adams, she continued to talk about the Dallas Cowboys’ offense with Brian Schottenheimer. At one point, she brought up George Pickens‘ contract situation and asked him how the offense would be without him.

Not as good.
Brian Schottenheimer replied
Hearing these three words, Adams admitted it was a good summary of how important the wide receiver is to the Cowboys’ offense. Dak Prescott might be the engine that will drive them forward, but having Pickens and CeeDee Lamb as the wheels that make Schotty’s offense great.
"We expect [George Pickens] to be a Cowboy for a long time."

After that, when the hostess asked the Cowboys’ head coach about the negotiations between Pickens’ representatives and them, Schottenheimer just mentioned that he hopes the wideout stays with them for a long time.
Additionally, the Colorado native confirmed to Kay Adams about how he and owner Jerry Jones have been communicating about George Pickens’ contract situation, among many other things. He believes the open conversations are what’s good about the Cowboys.
Jerry Jones subtly suggests George Pickens should bypass his agent
Along with Brian Schottenheimer, Jerry Jones was also at the NFL league meetings. When NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo caught up with the billionaire, he asked the owner-cum-GM if he was willing to work with George Pickens’ agent, David Mulugheta.
If he worked without an agent, he’d save a lot of money… with me.
Jerry Jones replied, as quoted by Mike Garafolo
The 83-year-old earlier mentioned that he did not mind working with Mulugheta, despite the tensions they have had over the past calendar year.
I asked Jerry Jones if George Pickens has said he wants negotiations to go thru agent David Mulugheta. Jones said he’s talked to agents over the years and has no issue doing that. But… “If he worked without an agent, he’d save a lot of money.” After a pause, he added: “With me.” https://t.co/5IXkkSaoC7

In both Micah Parsons‘ and Trevon Diggs‘ situations, Jones was irked by David Mulugheta’s involvement. Even though that led to some questionable comments from all parties involved, it seems the energy magnate does not care.
By subtly suggesting that Pickens work with him directly, he implied that the wide receiver can save a lot of money. That is, if he avoids involving his agent, he would save on the commission he would otherwise lose from his paycheck.
