‘Lorenzo Musetti is a good tennis player, but he’s got no manners’: Dan Evans

Dan Evans and Lorenzo Musetti

Dan Evans is enjoying his ‘moment in the Sun’ and why not, it’s not everyday that you beat the World no.1. British tennis player Evans had won just four matches on clay prior to meeting Novak Djokovic in the third-round of the Monte Carlo Masters 2021. But, reputations fell by the wayside as Evans pulled off a major upset by beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-4 7-5.

The highlight of the match was the forty-five unforced errors that Djokovic ended up with, it was more than twice the number of errors by Evans. With this win, Evans booked a place in his first ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final. In the Quarters he will face eleventh seed David Goffin.

Before coming to play in the Monte Carlo masters, Evans was playing at the Sardegna Open where he faced Musetti in the round of sixteen. Musetti won that match 6-1 1-6 7-6, and in the post match conference said, “Evans disrespected me. I don’t want to be treated like a young man,” among many other things. This comment did not go down well with Evans. After the victory against Djokovic, Evans spoke his heart out in the post match conference.
