NBA analyst Jason Whitlock did not hold back against the WNBA star Brittney Griner for her recent actions towards the league officials. Before we get there, Whitlock is known for his controversial and unusual takes in and around the sport. His most recent one towards Griner is just another example of his weird assessment of the player.

In a viral clip making rounds on the internet, Grinner was spotted having a go at the WNBA officials after the first half of the game. All this happened while she was being interviewed live by a CBS reporter. Grinner told the refs to ‘be fu**ing better’ before coming back to the interview. She later apologised to the reporter as well.

However, Whitlock was not happy with Griner’s conduct. He let out a take that left the NBA community stunned.

Jason Whitlock wrote on X, We traded the Merchant of Death for BG. And y’all think the Luka trade was bad.

That was a very loaded statement. Whitlock has always been against the prisoner exchange, but his interpretation of Grinner’s actions towards the referees was quite uncharitable.

For context, Griner, a member of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and a two-time Olympic gold medallist in basketball, was detained in Russia in February 2022, while traveling abroad on suspicion of cocaine use. She was arrested after authorities discovered hashish oil in her suitcase, which is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Griner was successfully swapped for Viktor Bout, a Russian arms trader known as “The Merchant of Death,” in a prisoner swap. The New York Times reported that a jury in New York had found Bout guilty on four charges, including conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens. Hence, Whitlock’s take is something that fans can’t get over easily.

Jemele Hill comes in support of Brittney Griner in an ongoing Caitlin Clark controversy

The Indiana Fever overcame the Dream on the road during Thursday night’s matchup between the two teams. Griner had a difficult game because he was in foul trouble the entire time. Griner was seen shouting on Atlanta’s bench because she was so irritated.

Fans accused her of disparaging Clark, which is why a video of her fleeting interaction became viral on social media. Riley Gaines is among those who believe Griner referred to Clark as a “trash white girl” near the end of the game. However, Jemele Hill thinks otherwise. She took to her X to make things clear regarding Griner.

Jemele Hill wrote on X, The foul call made on her had nothing to do with Caitlin Clark. It was because she fouled Natasha Howard. She clearly says ‘trash’ and ‘[expletive ]WACK CALL.’ But carry on with your grifting.

Despite Hill making her views known, fans are not completely in agreement with her. Instead, some are demanding that Griner be looked into by the WNBA. That seems highly unlikely at the moment. It remains to be seen how far this situation escalates in the coming days.

Former NBA player left disgusted with Jason Whitlock’s take on Brittney Griner

One would say that Jason Whitlock went overboard with his recent take about Brittney Griner on X. Demeaning someone over his/her past is not a good thing to do. This is exactly what a former NBA player, Eddie A. Johnson, reminded Whitlock of, but in his way. Johnson replied to Whilock’s post on X.

Eddie A. Johnson wrote on X, So now athletes can’t show emotion huh? Man what happened to you? You are one sad big puppy!

Johnson’s remarks challenged the notion that a single act of annoyance diminishes the worth of a person’s life or second chance. The journey of Brittney Griner has been equivalent to a real-life drama, and it is now officially on its way to the big screen. ESPN will be releasing a documentary and a scripted series from ABC Signature depicting her story.
