Team USA women’s basketball star Brittney Griner secured the gold medal with her nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Griner has been through a lot in her personal life, and this gold medal victory brought out her emotions as she stood for her nation’s national anthem. Team USA won 67-66 in a hard-fought, nail-biting game against Team France in the Finals.

Interestingly, this is Griner’s third Gold medal for her nation. The 33-year-old had already won Gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her team’s victory on the final day of the 2024 Paris Olympics left her emotional.

Griner shed tears as she stood between her teammates wearing a gold medal around her neck, hearing the national anthem, and watching the American flag rise in Bercy Arena. One fan wrote on X, “A lot of us take our freedom for granted. She gets it.”

It is worth noting that Griner was released from a Russian penal colony in December 2022 in exchange for an arms dealer, after being imprisoned for nearly 10 months. The WNBA star returned to the court for the first time in May 2023 and proudly stood for the national anthem during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

WNBA and Team USA women’s basketball star Brittney Griner won Amercian fans’ hearts after securing gold at the Paris Olympics. Griner was spotted getting visibly emotional during the USA national anthem. Fans were quick to notice this and support her on social media.

Many fans took to various social media platforms to shower their love and support for Griner. One fan wrote on X, “She’s showing appreciation and alot of us shouldn’t take our freedom for granted .., well deserved win”, while another fan wrote, “Guess the national anthem means a little more after what she went through.”

Brittney Griner tallied four points and two rebounds in the gold medal game. After brushing away her emotions on the podium, Griner celebrated her 2024 Paris Games victory with her fellow athletes. According to Yahoo Sports, this triumph marks Team USA’s historic eighth consecutive gold medal at the Olympic Games.
