“Kurt should’ve just rolled me”; Brock Lesnar jokes on a painful botch in 2003
Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is a beast and that has been proved time and again by him, whether in the WWE ring or in the UFC Octagon. The Beast Incarnate definitely has the resume for a Hall of Fame induction. Brock Lesnar is a 7-time WWE champion and a 3-time Universal champion and not only that, he has won the Royal Rumble Twice and main evented Wrestlemania 4 times.
In his first Wrestlemania main-event in 2003, Brock emerged victorious against Kurt Angle and the match was very well received by the fans and critics alike. But something happened just before Lesnar pinned Kurt to win the WWE championship, that put everyone on their toes. Moving up towards the top rope, after delivering two F5’s to Kurt, the 6″3′ Brock Lesnar was going to attempt a shooting star press. The Beast Incarnate fell straight on his and concussed himself.
Speaking on The Michael Kay Show, he goes on explaining about what motivated him to perform the move and how a former star asked him to stop doing the move:
“That was foolish on my behalf, and like, so you get producers and people from higher up in the company that, they always want this Wrestlemania moment, ‘this would be fantastic’, and so I practiced it the night before, I was doing it in the Ohio Valley Wrestling when I was being trained.”
“So, I am a 310 pound man, 6’3 doing a front backflip up from the top rope, landing on my opponent. And Mr. perfect, Curt Henning, he said ‘you don’t need to do that’, ‘stop doing that’. Thankfully I didn’t break my neck or anything like that. I shouldn’t have done the move, I finished the move, I had a concussion, I finished the match, but thankfully that was the worst of it”.
laughing about the botch he said that Kurt should’ve kept the title:
“Kurt helped me through, was talking to me, saying, ‘Hey’, you know. But Kurt should’ve just rolled me over and pinned me (laughs). He should’ve just said, ‘That’s enough kid,’ and just went off script,”
What is next for Brock Lesnar?
It might be a long shot, but a Brock Lesnar vs Riddle match, whenever it happens, will be a blockbuster for WWE. WWE can book the former MMA stars in a David vs Goliath match, and Riddle himself has been pitching for the idea for quite some time even after being told by Brock Lesnar to not pursue the same.
But now Riddle thinks that he is worthy enough to be in the ring with Brock Lesnar:
“The obvious answer is Brock Lesnar, you know? I’ve been wanting that guy for a minute, and then he kind of didn’t want me, but now we’re kind of like. I might be able to get in there now. I don’t know if I’ll like the outcome of the match but of course!”.
