Brock Purdy delivered one of the best performances by a quarterback in the San Francisco 49ers’ history. He threw five total touchdowns as the Niners defeated the Indianapolis Colts 48-27.
With that performance, Purdy wrote his name among the greats of the Bay Area. The 25-year-old became the first 49ers quarterback since Steve Young in Super Bowl XXIX to throw at least 5 touchdowns in an NFL game.
That is not the only remarkable achievement, as four different receivers caught those touchdowns. George Kittle, Jauan Jennings, and Demarcus Robinson shared one each; only Christian McCaffrey had the opportunity to score two.
Brock Purdy is the first 49ers QB to throw for 5 TD in a game (reg. season or playoffs) since Steve Young in Super Bowl XXIX vs the Chargers. He is the first to do it in a regular season game since Joe Montana in 1990 at Falcons (franchise-record 6 Pass TD).

Brock Purdy continues to write records to his name
It’s a remarkable turnaround from Purdy, considering he was on the verge of losing his QB1 job just a few months after penning a five-year deal. The Niners sent him on rehab after he hurt his shoulder and foot on the opening day of the season.

Mac Jones stepped in and won five of his eight starts. Calls to start Jones at quarterback for the rest of the year began to mount. However, Jones reminded everyone that he’s only in San Francisco as the backup and Purdy is the starter.
Purdy is 6-1 after making a complete recovery and has thrown ten touchdowns and just one interception in his last four outings. The Colts experienced the full Brock Purdy treatment on Monday.
Brock Purdy completed a career-high 12 passes thrown 10+ yards downfield. The last 49ers QB with 12 deep completions in a game was Brian Hoyer in 2017 (12 vs Colts in Week 5). Purdy had 2 deep Pass TD Monday, as many as he had in his first 6 starts of the season. pic.twitter.com/HiXHTc7WuS

According to ESPN, Purdy completed a career-high 12 passes of 10 or more yards, becoming the first Niners quarterback to do so since Brian Hoyer threw 12 against the Colts in 2017. Additionally, Purdy’s two deep touchdown passes on Monday night also matched his total from his previous six starts combined.
Purdy finished with 25 completions from 34 pass attempts (73%) for 295 yards, 5 touchdowns, and one interception to Cam Bynum. In hindsight, he could have had two more. A Purdy pass ricocheted off Kittle’s hands inside the end zone, and Jake Tonges had a TD disallowed by the officials.

The Pro Bowler has completed 68.8% of his passes for 1737 yards, 18 total touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in seven games in 2025. After the game, he thanked head coach Kyle Shanahan for keeping faith in him.
This year it was really cool for [Kyle Shanahan] to understand the team and the turnover, and being real with the older guys that have been here in the challenge of saying ‘hey, we have to win some gritty games and then late in the year see where we’re at‘.

Kittle’s night ended prematurely due to a hamstring injury. Before leaving the game, the Pro Bowl tight end had 7 receptions for 115 yards and one score. Jennings caught 5 passes for 71 yards and one score.
McCaffrey had combined for 146 yards from 27 touches on the ball and two scores. It was CMC’s 10th game with 100 scrimmage yards and 2 TDs, tying Roger Craig for third-most in 49ers history. He trails Jerry Rice (25) and Terrell Owens (12).
The 49ers defeat the Colts 48-27, the most points they have scored since Week 14 of 2019 at the Saints (won 48-46).

CMC records his 10th game with 100 scrimmage yards and 2 TD, tying Roger Craig for 3rd-most in 49ers history. He trails Jerry Rice (25) and Terrell Owens (12).
McCaffrey crossed another rare feat. He became only the fifth player in NFL history to have 1,800+ scrimmage yards in at least 5 career seasons.

The Niners clinched a playoff spot and are currently the fifth seed. Their next goal should be the first seed, but it won’t be an easy task. They must defeat teams that have combined to win 23 games this season: the 11-4 Chicago Bears and the 12-3 Seattle Seahawks.
