Ever since the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Brock Purdy stepped foot on the football field, he has been under intense scrutiny and criticism. Whether it’s for being ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ after being picked in the last round of his draft or being labeled as ‘game-manager’ for winning games– Brock Purdy had hardly been appreciated in the true manner he deserved.
Despite leading the 49ers to the playoffs in both his seasons as starting QB, let alone to the Super Bowl last season, Purdy hasn’t even been credited properly. As many believed, the main reason the second-year quarterback was able to lead his way to the Super Bowl while dominating the entire NFC at the same time was because of the star-studded offense gathered by head coach Kyle Shanahan.
However, one can hardly deny Purdy’s contributions to the Niners’ success, given the fact, he logged an impressive 4,280 yards in a single season, while also being the MVP favorite for most of the season. In his recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show, the 49ers’ star QB was asked how he deals with the intense criticism that comes his way on a usual basis.
It's part of the sport and I'm not saying, 'Oh, woe is me,' or anything like that. I mean, it's part of it. And people are always going to have a talking point, and that's fine, but for me, all I care about is the respect [from] the guys in the locker room, [from] the coaches, the staff, the organization. And they see how I handle business here, and how I perform in games, and what's on the film, rather than just feelings and opinions and emotions.Brock Purdy said
Brock Purdy’s self-improvement journey for the next season
When the Niners came after the tragic Super Bowl loss in February, Purdy established a noble example of his leadership as he took the entire blame on his shoulders, and did not let his players face the media and fan scrutiny. With him as the starting quarterback, the 49ers are the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the upcoming minicamps, the 49ers’ prime focus will be the chemistry between its wide receivers and quarterbacks as they get ready to dominate the season from the beginning.
After winning the Super Bowl tape repeatedly for the last few months, Purdy had realized his lacking points and moving forward. He aimed to counter them most specifically his throws.
