Brock Purdy receives support from 4x Super Bowl Champion Joe Montana in his pursuit of a new contract: “You gotta pay him”
With Brock Purdy's contract set to expire soon, the 49ers must take Hall of Famer Joe Montana’s advice—lock him in long-term with a $50 million+ per year deal.

Brock Purdy is entering the final year of his rookie contract. According to reports, the San Francisco 49ers brass remain conflicted on whether to pay him top money despite Purdy leading the team to consecutive NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl.
49ers general manager John Lynch recently made it clear that Purdy is the guy for the long term.
We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time. He’s done so much for our organization. He’s won big games and had a little tougher task as we all did this year with some of the things that happened this year.
John Lynch said
Purdy is among the lowest earners in the NFL. He will earn a base salary of $1.1 million in 2025. It can obviously change if the 49ers agree to his demand. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini spoke with insiders in the Niners camp and concluded that Purdy’s expectations are not too high. The last overall pick in 2022 will be content, earning just above $50 million a year.
I don’t think Brock Purdy’s sitting there going, ‘I’m demanding I want to be the highest-paid quarterback.’ I think for Brock Purdy if it was up to him he’d probably make a little bit more than he is now as long as he can drive his Toyota.

Joe Montana wants the 49ers to give Brock Purdy a big-money contract
Brock Purdy is a solid quarterback, but critics argue that he benefits from All-Pro caliber players around him to hide his shortcomings. The theory found legitimacy after Purdy struggled to cope without Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, and Charvarius Ward. The 2024 season was a complete 180—finishing with only six wins—compared to 2023 when they played in the Super Bowl.

However, 4x Super Bowl winner and Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana believes Brock Purdy has the qualities to play for a long time in the Bay Area. Montana wants the 49ers to do the right thing and give the Iowa State graduate a $50 million+ deal.
You gotta pay him [Brock Purdy]. I can show you 4 or 5 guys in the league making tons of money that haven’t produced anywhere near what he’s been able to do. They just had one of those years where guys were getting hurt offensively and defensively, craziness at the beginning of the year with talking trades with the wide receiver, and then he gets hurt. They just had one of those years where you can’t wait to get it behind you.
