The San Francisco 49ers’ star quarterback Brock Purdy was one of the most talked-about stories last season, as he led the team straight to the Super Bowl in his second year. However, that seemed to have dived down after the quarterback market flourished this offseason.
With quarterbacks earning record-breaking deals this offseason, the anticipation regarding Brock Purdy’s extension has reached the ceiling. Many even predict the 2022 last-round pick will earn over $60 million per year. Amidst these speculations, the quarterback is focused on his game and his aim to win the Super Bowl in his third year playing in the NFL.
In a conversation with Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Purdy acknowledged all the mammoth deals signed by his fellow quarterbacks in the league but his extension has some time and he does not wish to spend it speculating instead of working for it.
Guys talk about it within the locker room and stuff, and so we all end up hearing about it. But for me, that's so far down the road with my situation. And for me, I've got to be present right now, right here at camp. I've got to be better and grow right now so that I can be the best I can be for this team this year.Brock Purdy said
Purdy is coming off a remarkable season in 2023 by logging 4,280 passing yards and a passer rating of 113.0. Even though the Niners qualified for the Super Bowl, they couldn’t succeed with it and were outperformed by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brock Purdy prioritizes performance over potential extension
Heading into the 2024 season, the 49ers and Purdy are aiming higher than just advancing to the Super Bowl. Given, that they did that last season while also leading the NFC throughout the season.
Obviously, we have a goal at hand, going all the way, and winning, and finishing it.Brock Purdy said

The signal-caller further said that it would be wrong for him to keep thinking about his potentially lucrative extension. That’s why, he prefers rather focusing on his performance and bringing the Super Bowl title for his team above everything else.
