The Denver Broncos have ruled Alex Singleton out for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old linebacker tore his ACL in the Broncos’ week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As reported by Broncos’ writer Zac Stevens, Singleton tore a ligament in his leg in the first quarter of football against the Bucs at Mile High. Stevens even provided a speculative video as proof of the 30-year-old picking up the injury.
Right after the Broncos’ safety, Brandon Jones intercepted Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield; the camera followed him around until he was brought down. However, if anyone looks closely at the bottom of the screen, they will find Alex Singleton hobbling and pacing uncomfortably.

The remarkable part of the story is that the edge rusher knew something was wrong but kept it a secret from the coaches and played an additional 49 snaps as the Broncos recorded their first win of the 2024 season. The doctors eventually discovered his torn ACL when the players checked in for the routine checkup. Stevens on Wednesday revealed the Broncos put Alex Singleton on IR, announcing the end of his campaign.
Bo Nix speaks on losing Alex Singleton for the rest of the season due to ACL injury
Singleton is one of those players who quietly does his job while staying under the radar. According to Pro Football Focus, the Montana State graduate has finished back-to-back seasons with the highest ‘Tackles versus Expected total’. He constantly ranks among the best defensive ends in the league.
Despite the Broncos’ early struggles, Singleton contributed from his end with 17 tackles and 1 interception in three games. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix was asked about how big of a loss is the linebacker for the team.
Bo Nix said losing Alex Singleton for the season is "really tough":
— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) September 25, 2024
"Alex is a great football player. He does a lot on the field for us. He’s one of those guys that when he’s on the field, everybody feels a lot better. It’s going to be tough… huge loss for us"
Nix further complimented the veteran for his courageous display even after playing with basically one foot.
Bo Nix on losing Alex Singleton for the year:
— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) September 25, 2024
"He’s the type of guy that would tear his ACL on the sixth play of the game and go out there and finish the game… Shows how tough he is and shows how much of a leader he is. Whatever he can do for the team, he’s going to go out…
Singleton is a player’s player because even athletes outside of the Broncos showed respect for his commitment to the game. Notably, New York Jets all-pro cornerback Sauce Gardner took to X to speak good things about Singleton.
I was just talking about how much of a dog he is, and nobody told me this happened. Praying for a speedy recovery.

Singleton played all 17 games for the Broncos in 2023. He completed 117 combined tackles, 6 TFLs, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 pass deflections. In March that year, he signed a three-year, $18 million contract extension with $9 million guaranteed.
