It has been an odd season riddled with injuries for wide receivers. Two wideouts have been the victim of shootings so far with the first being San Francisco 49ers’ rookie Ricky Pearsall who was mugged and shot in the chest and the second being Denver Broncos’ Josh Reynolds who took two bullets last week.

The 29-year-old wide receiver was shot once in the left arm and once in the back of the head while he was sitting in his car. The incident took place last Friday in Denver and the details have been kept under wraps to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation into the matter. In light of Reynolds’ shooting, head coach Sean Payton spoke to the media and addressed his situation.

The HC expressed gratitude for Reynolds doing well but acknowledged that the wide receiver is still reeling from the mental toll the incident has taken on him.

He’s fortunate, Obviously the league and the local authorities are handling that. I’ve had a chance to talk with him. He was pretty shaken up, and I’ll leave it at that.

Sean Payton told the media as reported by The Denver Post

The incident nearly cost him his life which is why it is not something Reynolds will be able to put behind him anytime soon.

Josh Reynolds and his friend were both shot in last Friday’s incident

The wide receiver was not alone when the shooting took place. There was another man at the back of his car, presumably a friend who also took a bullet. The other man took a bullet to the back. This happened right after Reynolds left a strip club and was followed by the assailants.

Sean Payton addressed his players regarding the incident. Reynolds’ teammates expressed gratitude that he was fine. “Today, we’ve got counseling and so many resources, and they go into play. All of it,” he said revealing that the Broncos have the appropriate support system to help all their players.

Josh Reynolds was placed on the team’s injured reserve after he sustained a fractured finger in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this month. He has had 12 receptions and 183 yards for 1 touchdown.

Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.
