Bronny James is aware of the pressure he is under. But he doesn’t necessarily feel it just because it’s there. After completing his debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers, James will soon begin his second NBA season when the summer league starts. Interestingly, the Lakers kick-started their summer league campaign with a game against the Golden State Warriors.
While many expected Bronny James to be in the starting lineup, he wasn’t. Ahead of the game against the Warriors, James Jr. spoke with the reporters regarding the Lakers’ offseason, his dad opting in, and more. One of the questions James was asked was regarding his development in the game and what impact he would have going into this second season in the NBA.
It’s definitely made me think about being more aggressive on that end of the floor, but I can’t lose that defensive drive that will get me on the floor because there’s gonna be guys that can score 15, 20 a game, I’m most likely not going to be that guy right now. To get myself on the floor, I’ve got to be a defensive menace. That’s my main focus.

Indirectly or directly, James has dropped the hammer regarding his role in the coming season. The Lakers’ youngster accepts the humble reality that he is still far from being a ‘star’ type of player on the Lakers’ roster and needs to develop his game with time. The Summer league will be the best place for Bronny to get going.
James Jr. averaged 2.3 points per game while playing in 27 games for the Lakers during his rookie campaign, including one start. He played more in the G League, averaging 21.9 points per contest. Even though James’ shooting skills improved during his rookie campaign, his main goal is to get in excellent shape so he can continue to enhance his defensive play, which has been his strongest suit so far.
For now, the Lakers are not stressing the player into anything, but the pressure of being LeBron James‘ son means Bronny has to deliver positive performances going forward in his professional basketball career.
Bronny James is optimistic despite being excluded from the California classic game against the Warriors
Bronny James was not dressed by the Lakers for the game against the Golden State Warriors. Following the game, some fans expressed astonishment that James had not been allowed to participate as the Lakers lost 89-84. Despite all this, James is optimistic and has his eyes set on improving himself each day ahead of the new season.
Bronny James told the media, “I’m just running a lot. Getting a lot of conditioning in … it’s just Year 2, so I’ve got to lock in on the things that I didn’t know before my rookie year and excel with that.”

Interestingly, last season, Lakers’ HC JJ Redick and GM Rob Pelinka also stressed that Bronny needs time to develop his game, and will be supported regarding his development. As far as the Lakers fans are concerned, it could be either on Sunday or later in Las Vegas where they get to see how Bronny performs for the first time after his rookie season.
Bronny James shed some light on his father, LeBron James’ future
The reports of the LeBron James trade deal have been dominating the news lately. Many elite NBA organizations will seek him in the 2025 NBA Free Agency, regardless of his age. His son, Bronny James, was also quizzed about this issue and the potential effects on him of James being traded, as the rumors were becoming more and more intense by the day.

I don’t really pay attention to that stuff. There’s a lot of stuff going around that I don’t pay attention to.

As the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history, the King and Bronny shared the court for the Lakers’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. The latter would prefer that LBJ remain in Los Angeles instead of relocating. For now, it seems likely that LeBron James stays with the Lakers, but anything can happen in the NBA, as seen with the Luka Doncic trade back in February.
