Bronny James played 12 minutes in the Lakers’ dominant 134-96 win over the Wizards on January 31, scoring a career-high five points. As the son of NBA legend LeBron James, every move he makes is under a microscope—something Washington fans made clear with sarcastic “MVP” chants. While Bronny is still finding his role, the Lakers continue their push in the West, keeping bettors and analysts watching closely.
After being drafted 55th during the 2024 draft, it is reasonable to say that Bronny has not yet set the league alight. Before this game, he had only averaged 0.3 points per game. Commentators and fans alike have questioned whether he really belongs at the elite level.
The Celtics and the Thunder are currently vying for the top favorite spot, with the Celtics, at +225, just edging out the Thunder, at +230 according to most sportsbooks listed on this helpful resource. The Lakers are considered an outside bet, at best, with odds of +4000, while the Wizards are even further behind in the betting at +100000.
LeBron James, even at 40 years old, is still netting big points for the Lakers. In the match against the Wizards, he left the court late in the third quarter, having already secured 24 points and 11 assists. He missed the opportunity to share the court with his son, Bronny.
However, the pair already made history in October when they both played on the same court. As well as playing together during a preseason game, the pair also shared the court in the season opener against the Phoenix Suns. On that occasion, Bronny came on as a substitute in the second quarter while his dad was still in the game.
Bronny James MVP Chants
Since then, Bronny’s appearances have been scant, and he has come in for criticism. This was especially true after a recent match against the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only did he end the game with no points, but he also recorded three turnovers.
Despite that setback, and despite calls from commentators including ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith for LeBron to stop using his influence to give Bronny a place on the team, he came back fighting during his latest appearance. As well as bagging five points, Bronny also secured two rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Having already chanted his name before he even entered the court, Wizards fans started to ironically cheer MVP for the youngster.

Lakers coach JJ Redick said that Bronny “has had eyeballs on him his whole life. He’s used to it.”
