Bronny James' miserable shooting form in NBA Summer League leaves Los Angeles Lakers fans concerned

Bronny James needs time to develop his game before he debuts in the NBA regular season. That is expected considering he is still a raw prospect. But what the Los Angeles Lakers rookie already has is elite athleticism for a player only 6′ 2″. Additionally, he is excellent at tracking the ball and defending the perimeter. But his shooting, one shot, in particular, left Lakers fans concerned.

Today was the Summer League game between the Lakers and the Boston Celtics. In one sequence in the 2nd quarter, fellow rookie Dalton Knecht started a move with 5 seconds left on the shot clock. He passed the ball to a teammate who took 2 dribbles to draw defenders. That left James Jr. wide open in the corner. He received the ball, and with his feet already set, took the shot as the shot clock counted down to zero. Unfortunately, the ball did not even touch the rim and ended up with the Celtics.

This was not the first airball of the night for Bronny James. In fact, both air balls were of the three shots he took from the 3-point line. That makes it 14 straight missed shots from the three. A concerning trend even though he himself admitted that he is in the middle of a shooting slump.

The 19-year-old did make one shot clock-beating shot off the dribble. That fadeaway was a tough one and brought out cheers from the crowd. However, that does not make up for his consistently bad shooting over the 4 games he has played in the NBA Summer League.

Lakers fans concerned after Bronny James’ continuous slump

Had he shot a couple in a game or two it would have been fine. But to miss 14 straight from deep, and this bizarre airball has Los Angeles Lakers fans wondering if the team made a mistake. It is not as if they had other good options in the 2nd round of the draft who they passed up. However, they could have signed a proper shooter before giving Bronny James a guaranteed contract.

With no off-season additions, Lakers fans want the draftees to give them their all. Dalton Knecht is certainly doing that. But James Jr. struggling had fans talking on social media, check some of those reactions below:

Everyone knows he has work to do. But the Los Angeles Lakers do not have enough time. In the event these airballs delay James Jr.’s development, it will mean the Lakers will have one less player to depend on next season. Not confidence-inspiring if the NBA title is their goal.
