WATCH: Bronny James put on skates in first game as Lakers; scores 4 points on debut
Bronny James debuts in the Summer League and becomes the second member of the James family to play in the NBA.
Bronny James struggles in his debut
Bronny James has made his much-awaited debut for the Los Angeles Lakers during the Summer League. Despite the excitement around the young talent, it seems things have taken a slow start. Bronny just scored four points in his debut in the summer league as the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Sacramento Kings 108-94.
Bronny James played for 21 minutes in which he had 4 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. James also went 0-3 from the deep and missed both of his free throws. He also showed flashes of his defensive instincts. The eldest son of LeBron James also had a ‘Welcome to the NBA’ moment when he was put on the skates by the Kings guard and top scorer of the game Adonis Arms.
Bronny played alongside his draftmate Dalton Knecht in the hopes of making an everlasting impact. After the game, Bronny sat down at the post-game media conference and admitted that he felt the pressure during the game. Furthermore, he admitted it was more than what he expected.
Although his first game didn’t go well this won’t be the last time we see Bronny suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers’ new No. 9 has signed his rookie contract worth $7.9 million. He will receive more minutes in the Summer League and will come off the bench when the regular season starts.
Both Lakers draft picks struggle in their first game
Both of the Lakers 2024 draft picks have played their first game in the NBA as part of the summer league. It seems that the pressure has gotten to them as both struggled to give a good performance. The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Sacramento Kings in the first NBA summer league game.
The Lakers’ 17th overall pick, Dalton Knecht, who came in the draft as a reputed scorer, did not deliver to his full potential. Knecht scored 12 points and did not have the most efficient day as he went 3-12 in shooting and 5-9 from the free throw line. Even the Laker’s second-round pick, Bronny James, didn’t have a great game as he just 4 points in his debut and went 0 from the deep.
The two rookies will now aim to improve, as it was their first game in the league. Many superstars and legends have failed to deliver in their first game. Both Knecht and James are expected to play an important role for the Lakers considering the team didn’t sign anyone during the offseason.
