It was expected and now it’s been confirmed that Bronny James, the 20-year-old rookie and son of LeBron James, will join and make his G-League debut with the Los Angeles Lakers’ affiliate team on Saturday. After he was drafted 55th overall, Bronny made his NBA debut which marked a historic moment for the James family.

However, to facilitate his development, the Lakers have planned to shuttle Bronny James between the main roster and the G-League. This will allow him to gain valuable playing time and adjust to the higher level of competition.

The Lakers today assigned Bronny James to their NBA G League affiliate, South Bay, where he’s expected to debut vs. Salt Lake City on Saturday, sources said. James will be on Lakers roster vs. 76ers Friday, then rejoin South Bay.

As veterans have dominated the Lakers’ rotation, Bronny’s immediate role will be limited, but head coach JJ Redick may give him opportunities as he progresses. Despite the excitement that surrounded his debut, expectations for Bronny’s rookie season have been tempered.

Bronny James’ highly anticipated G-League debut has already generated significant buzz, with Saturday’s game sold out, according to the Los Angeles Times. Tickets on the secondary market have been priced at a minimum of $200.

Bronny, 20, has appeared in four of the Lakers’ first eight games, averaging 1.0 points, 0.5 assists, and 0.3 rebounds per game. The G-League stint will surely provide him with valuable developmental experience, which will in return help him grow into a consistent NBA player.
