It is a blessing for Bronny James that he can practice and learn from one of the greatest to ever do it in LeBron James. The two Los Angeles Lakers teammates created some more history on Friday night. After becoming the first father-and-son duo to ever play together in the NBA, they combined for the first father-to-son assist in NBA history.

The Lakers continued to build on their impressive run since the beginning of March and went 13-2 this month. They registered another convincing 116-99 blowout against the Brooklyn Nets at the Crypto.com Arena on Friday night.

Following their remarkable feat, Bronny James revealed that he beat his father in a one-on-one matchup.

The last time I played [LeBron] 1-on-1, I don’t know if this story came out but he broke a backboard at our house in Miami. It was a special moment with us two.

Considering LeBron James is 41 now, it may be possible for Bronny James to have his number one on one. It was a funny story that got everyone in the room laughing, including Austin Reaves, who seemed to enjoy the story.

Bronny may be the son of LeBron, but things have been far from easy for the 21-year-old. Before making it to the NBA, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest that nearly ended his dreams of being a professional basketball player.

However, he was drafted by the Lakers as the 55th pick in the 2025 NBA draft. Hence, he became teammates and shared a dressing room with his father. But Bronny has spent the majority of his second season in LA training and playing in the G League.

The 2025-26 campaign is Bronny James’ second season in the NBA. But the playing time has been hard to come by. Ever since entering the league, the 21-year-old has been under immense pressure and viewed through a microscope by the media and fans.

After making his second consecutive appearance for the Lakers in a while, head coach JJ Redick admitted that he had to tweak his game plan against the Nets.

We had to put Bronny in even though he wasn’t scheduled to be in the second quarter…I’m really happy with where he’s at and where he’s going as a player.

Bronny did make an appearance in their previous game against the Indiana Pacers, where he clocked 13 minutes of action and scored four points. Against the Nets, he recorded three points in four minutes.

LeBron James on the first father-son assist in NBA history

LeBron James has seen his role as more of a playmaker and playing second fiddle to Luka Doncic this season. While he continues to play at a high level at 41, he picks and chooses his moments in games. He has come a long way since setting foot into the NBA. So far, he shares the court with his son in his 23rd season.

When asked about assisting Bronny for a three, LeBron said:

Not taking it for granted. That’s two games back-to-back playing meaningful minutes and him, also, making another play. Definitely a cool moment for us and also for our family.

The father and son duo will be hoping to share more minutes on the court and combine a lot more plays. With just eight games to go before the playoffs, it will be interesting to see if Redick plays Bronny more this season.
