LeBron James' son Bronny James and his stardom brings conflict in Los Angeles Lakers Summer League locker room
Bronny James has had his dream come true after he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. Now in the NBA, the 19-year-old can develop his career alongside his father LeBron James. As preparation, he played in his first few games in the Summer League, giving enough tape for the coaches to review. That said, his presence did cause a conflict.
The U.S. Sun spoke with an anonymous member of the Lakers summer league team. The player in question was livid about the impact all the focus on Bronny James had on their performances.
Almost everything centered around Bronny. I ended up being very frustrated because I was never put in the best situation. Or even put in some plays or game plans because they wanted Bronny to show his skills and shine...The tensions were visible. And pretty much we were all thinking about the end of the Summer League to get out of here and focus on our next step in our careers. The anonymous member said
This player relayed what apparently, he and the Lakers Summer League roster felt. That Bronny James was different and deserving of the playing time.
Consequently, that allegedly made many players disgruntled with the situation. They were thankful the Summer League was over so that they could work with other teams. As it was clear to them that the Lakers were apparently only concerned about James Jr.’s development.
If this is what the presence of Bronny James led to in just a few Summer League games, it could be detrimental for the Lakers in an 82-game season. They have LeBron James to take care of any ill effects. But long term it won’t help.
Bronny James might need to prove to teammates he belongs
At the Los Angeles Lakers, it won’t be summer league players fighting for a roster spot. Instead, it will be some of the best in the league working their tails off to win an NBA title. Therefore, Bronny James has to be at their level, soon.
If those stars feel that LeBron James’ son is not up to their standards, the repercussions might be different. Unlike the Summer League, players in the NBA will not be hesitant to speak out, be it with the Lakers front office, coaches, or even the media. Especially when the all-time leading scorer is not around to stem the problems.
Therefore, Bronny James has to develop his game to the level that befits wearing a Lakers jersey. He has a great coaching staff and his teammates to lean on. Only time will tell if it all works out.
