Bronny James to split time between LA Lakers and South Bay Lakers
Bronny James would split his time between the Los Angeles Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. It is a move that focuses on growth above fanfare. According to a report by ESPN, the son of LeBron James will travel with the Lakers for their upcoming road trip from October 28 to November 6. Afterward, he will divide his time between the two teams.
Bronny James made his NBA debut on October 22. He played three minutes alongside his father in the Lakers’ 110-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns. This historic moment marked the first time a father-son duo has played together in an NBA game. The rookie has a long way to go before becoming an integral part of the Lakers.
Furthermore, LeBron James had expressed support for the decision. The four-time champion stated it will aid Bronny’s development as a player. His son is expected to maintain a depth bench role for Los Angeles. However, he will likely start for South Bay in their opener against the Salt Lake City Stars.

The Lakers drafted James 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He also signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Lakers. Although his contract isn’t a two-way deal, his agent, Rich Paul and the Lakers always intended for G League play to be part of his development.
Magic Johnson backs Lakers to develop Bronny James
While the critics were busy attacking Bronny James, Magic Johnson instead took a different approach. The Lakers legend expressed confidence in the team’s ability to develop the rookie. He went further to cite examples of successful young players like Alex Caruso and Austin Reaves.
Basketball fans, Bronny James is in good hands with the Lakers, who are great with developing talent. Two names that I can name recently that I’ve seen firsthand are Alex Caruso and Austin Reaves, who both are starters in the league today. Bronny will be next.

Caruso, an undrafted free agent in 2016, won a title with the Lakers in 2020. Then, he became a strong defender with the Chicago Bulls and joined the Oklahoma City Thunder this year. Reaves, who was also undrafted, has become a starter for the Lakers after joining in 2021.
Although he made a slow preseason start, Bronny James broke through with 17 points in the Lakers’ final preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. It shows that there is much to play for and much more room for growth.
