The NBA Summer League game featuring the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics grabbed all the attention. Once again, all eyes were on the Lakers’ player, Bronny James, as he entered his second year in the NBA with the franchise. Notably, James Jr turned heads in his game against the Celtics.
In the first half of Thursday night’s Summer League game in Las Vegas against the Boston Celtics, James appeared somewhat disoriented. He was in his element during the second half. So much so that the young Laker ended up scoring a game-high 18 points against the Celtics. However, James and his side lost, but the Lakers fans in particular were left with promising signs for their youngster.
While the eldest son of LeBron James improved on the attacking front, he still needs to take care of his turnovers in the game. Thursday’s 87-78 loss to the Celtics saw him give away the ball a whopping 8 times, something that needs to be sorted out quickly. In all this, fans saw the positive side of Bronny’s game on Thursday, taking to social media to heap praise on him.

18 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 8 turnovers were James’ final stats. After four games in the Vegas Summer League, James is now posting 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.0 turnovers on 47.6% shooting. The Lakers youngster went through a tough phase this past season, dealing with constant criticism from fans and various NBA analysts.
Hence, watching the fans go from hate to praise towards him showcases that James Jr. is now on the right track ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. The pressure will never stop for the young star, considering that he is the son of the great LeBron James. As such, it is up to him to deliver these performances on the main stage in the coming season.
Fans heap immense praise on Bronny James’ summer league performances
Just a year ago, Bronny James was elected as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. This move enraged the fanbase as well as many NBA analysts. They termed the move with nepotism surrounding LeBron James and his son. Despite all this, Bronny kept his head down and worked on himself throughout the year.
His rookie year was not up to his standards and fell below expectations, leaving fans to troll him, as well as many analysts. Despite all that, James has come back stronger this NBA Summer League ahead of the new 2025-26 season.
His recent Summer League performances have left fans surprised, and many have showered him with praise, which was once immense criticism and hate. One fan wrote on X, “He been cooking lately.” Check out some of the reactions below:

Bronny James looking like an elite athlete. It's difficult because he's maximum 6'2 but he defends hard, moves twitchy and clearly has the signs of a 3 point shooter. Once he's consistently hitting 3's he'll be a rotation nba player

One also has to keep in mind that a few years ago, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest while training with the USC Trojans. So, it has not been easy for the Lakers player to reach his full potential in such a short time. When the Lakers signed him, they knew that Bronny would need time to develop with everything that has happened around him. Now, he has been showing signs of his true self.
Dwyane Wade makes an interesting revelation regarding Bronny James
This NBA Summer League has been about Bronny James all along. Putting up good numbers after a horrendous 2024-25 NBA season is a step in the right direction. He put up 17 points against the Los Angeles Clippers and now has followed it by adding 18 points against the Boston Celtics in the Summer League.
Bronny’s output indicates that he can be given a more significant role on the main roster. However, NBA legend Dwyane Wade thinks that people should lower their expectations for Bronny.
I think what Klutch has done, what Rich has done, what his father has done is they haven’t rushed his process, Bronny doesn’t need to be a rotation player for the Lakers right now. He needs to keep developing.
Dwyane Wade said on the Timeout Podcast

As much as the fans want to see Bronny James performing week in week out for the Lakers, it is factually not possible. That is because James Jr. is not a finished product as of yet, and even Wade agrees with this. James is still developing and needs time to be one of the main starters on the Lakers’ roster.
In addition, Wade has seen many players who should have had more time to develop, but didn’t receive the opportunity. However, helping the eldest son of LeBron James develop must remain a key objective for the Lakers. Replicating the Summer League performances in the upcoming NBA season or playing an efficient game could be a step in the right direction for the youngster.
