It has not been the best of starts for Bronny James in the NBA. There was always going to be a lot of pressure surrounding the 21-year-old ever since he decided to pursue the sport of basketball as a professional career. It was never going to be easy, especially considering he is the son of arguably the greatest player of all time, LeBron James.
But at the end of the day, they made history ever since Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers as the 55th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft. Bronny and LeBron James became the first-ever father-son duo to play together in the NBA.
But things have not been easy for James Jr. Before being drafted into the league, he suffered a cardiac arrest that could have ended his professional basketball career. After bouncing back and making it into the NBA, there has been constant criticism surrounding the young Lakers star.
Bronny has struggled for minutes in his second season, and it does not look like Lakers head coach JJ Redick counts on the 21-year-old unless it is during garbage time. And it is unlikely that things are going to change anytime soon with the likes of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the squad.
American rapper Pooh Shiesty is back with a new song after being released from prison. He has made headlines once again after dissing Bronny James. In one of the verses, he raps:
See, my daddy my first co-D, jumped in the streets, he showed me lanes (Them facts)/Your daddy a killer, but you ain’t, you just like Bronny James.

Being LeBron’s son comes with its pros and cons. While LeBron pushed the Lakers to draft Bronny in 2024, the pressure and criticism surrounding the young guard are never going to end.
Bronny James’ NBA career is struggling to take off
Bronny’s second season in the NBA has not gone according to plan. The Lakers management would have expected the 21-year-old to show some growth in the 2025-26 season, but he has struggled with his performances off the bench. Bronny is under contract with the Lakers till 2028, and it looks like they will remain invested in him.

LeBron’s oldest son is averaging 1.9 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists and is shooting at 32.3 percent from the field in just under nine minutes this season. He has made 14 appearances out of a possible 24 for the Lakers so far. Last season, he featured in 27 games.
The worrying sign for James Jr. is that Nick Smith Jr. has seen more minutes than him this season. Smith Jr. was signed on a two-way contract after being released by the Charlotte Hornets. And to add to the worries, Bronny has struggled in the G League as well. He is averaging 10.5 points, 4.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds, but shooting just 34.1 percent from the field with 17 turnovers. The signs do look worrying for Bronny at the moment.
Carmelo Anthony feels LeBron James has taken a step back
After being ruled out for the first 14 games of the season due to sciatica nerve issues, LeBron James has made a slow start since his return to the court as it looks like age is finally catching up with the ‘King’. For the first time in his 23-year career, James is not the focal point of his team. It is Doncic’s team now as the Lakers prepare themselves for the post-James era.
James’ longtime friend and former Lakers teammate, Carmelo Anthony believes James could still average 30 points per game if he wanted to.
If he said, ‘Yo, I’mma go average 30.’ He’s gonna do it in year 23. Bro, he was in year 22, averaging 27, 26. It ain’t that much changed since 4 months ago. It’s just more that he’s taken a step back. I’m just saying, if he wanted to, he could go out there and average 30 points.
Melo does have a point. James is coming off averaging 24.4 points per game last season. But with Doncic averaging 35 points and Reaves scoring 28 points a game, James may have taken a step back as his two teammates run the show.
