Ric Flair’s retirement has turned into a long-running gag in the professional wrestling industry. Despite having stepped away from the ring multiple times, he somehow always seems to come back for another match. The wrestling legend was recently a guest on the Five Star podcast, where he said that he still had another match left in him.
This comment got the wrestling world talking, and WWE superstar Bronson Reed also reacted to the statement. He said that his fans were constantly asking him to hit Flair with a Tsunami. In recent times, the Australian has made a name for himself with his devastating finisher. Just a few months ago, Seth Rollins became the victim of six Tsunamis and was written off TV.
Flair’s first retirement came in 2008 when he faced Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24. The two superstars put in arguably the best match of the card and had a highly emotional ending to their bout. Now, backstage rumors suggest that the 16x World Champion did not wish to retire at this point.

Vince McMahon reportedly had a good story planned that he wanted to play out on screen, and the 75-year-old reluctantly agreed. However, he went to TNA the very next year to keep being an in-ring competitor.
Ric Flair said in 2012 that he would never wrestle again. Alas, he came back for another match in 2022, and the whole PPV was themed around his retirement. He teamed up with his son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, to face Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. The Hall of Famer later admitted that he passed out twice during this match and had no idea what was going on.
Ric Flair showers massive praise on AEW; claims Tony Khan didn’t let him get in the ring
In late 2023, Ric Flair started making appearances for AEW. He allegedly wanted to accompany his friend, Sting, during his final few months in professional wrestling. Later on, his company, Woooo Energy Drinks, would go on to become a sponsor for AEW. However, the Nature Boy faced a lot of backlash for these actions, and he lashed out, saying that he would quit if the fans didn’t want him there. Alas, he hasn’t been with the company since the 2024 Revolution PPV.

Speaking on the Five Star Podcast, Flair showered praise on AEW for doing a fantastic job. He also said that Tony Khan was not just a great promoter but a caring and genuine human being as well. The Dirtiest Player in the Game revealed that he did want to have a match for the promotion. However, the AEW President wouldn’t let him anywhere near the ring once he found out the veteran was on blood thinners.
It was reported in the summer of 2024 that Flair’s time with AEW had come to an end despite his multi-year sponsorship deal. It is worth noting that the wrestling legend still referred to AEW as “our company.” Furthermore, there are several rumors that he will be present on the January 4th episode of AEW Collision.
