Brooks Koepka sent a massive shockwave across the golf community on Tuesday by leaving LIV Golf. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour announced the departure of the 5-time major champion on social media and thanked him for his contributions.
The former World No.1 was one of the high-profile names that left the PGA Tour in 2022 and joined LIV Golf on a hefty contract. He was reported to have joined the breakaway tour in a deal worth more than $100 million.
After joining LIV Golf, he was named the captain of Smash GC. In his first season on the tour, he won the LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah, beating Peter Uihlein in a playoff round. He went on to win 4 more times on LIV Golf in the next two years.
Earlier this season, there had been rumors regarding him leaving the Saudi-backed circuit once his contract expires. The golfer himself expressed that he was uncertain about his future. Despite him having one more year on his deal, the league on Tuesday announced his exit.

The year 2025 was a challenging one for him both on-and-off the greens. On the LIV Golf circuit, he managed just 2 top-10 finishes, with one being a runner-up finish at LIV Golf Singapore. His final event at the LIV Golf Indianapolis saw him finish 50th in the leaderboard with a 1-over par score.
As for the majors, he had a disappointing experience in that as well. At the Masters Tournament, where he finished as a runner-up in 2023, he shot scores of 74 and 75 and missed the cut. Things did not change for him at the PGA Championship as he carded scores of 75 and 76 and suffered another early exit.
At the U.S. Open, he did make the cut. Following this, he expressed his frustrations of not being able to play the weekend during the first two majors.
While he seemed to be in contention for the title, he later slipped up and finished T12. This was followed by another missed cut at the Open Championship, following scores of 75 and 74 in the first two rounds.
As for his personal life, his wife Jena Sims suffered a miscarriage. In a post on Instagram in October, the 36-year-old shared that she experienced a pregnancy loss at 16 weeks.

BYYYEEEEE. Enjoy your LIV money. Taking the bag meant walking away from the PGA Tour. Actions have consequences. Don’t care what he did while on tour. Hope him and the rest of LIV are banned for life.

With Koepka leaving the team, Talor Gooch has been announced as the new captain of Smash GC. It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the team as the 4th member.
