5-time major champion Brooks Koepka has not had the best of times in the major championships this year. The LIV Golfer missed the cut at both The Masters and the PGA Championship. Following a score of 2-under 68 in the first round of the U.S. Open, the golfer opened up about his recent frustrations.
In the Masters Tournament, Koepka shot scores of 74 and 75 in the two rounds and missed the cut with a score of 149. Fortunes did not change for him at the PGA Championship as well, as he carded scores of 75 and 76 in the two rounds and had an early exit.
He has had mixed results on the LIV Golf circuit as well. After finishing T7 and 2nd at the Adelaide and Singapore event, he has struggled to break into the top-10 standings.
On Thursday, the Smash GC captain seemed to have found his form again. In the tricky playing surface of the Oakmont course in Pennsylvania, he made 2 bogeys, 2 birdies and 1 eagle to end the day T3 with a score of 68.
While speaking with the reporters after the round, the 2-time U.S. Open winner opened up about his mental health following poor performances in the first two majors. He expressed that he was not “happy” at that time and it “drove” him nuts.
From the first weekend in April until about last week, you didn’t want to be around me. It drove me nuts, it ate at me. I haven’t been happy. It’s very irritating.

Brooks Koepka reveals getting brutally scolded by his coach
Brooks Koepka has struggled a bit in recent months. During the press conference after the first round of the U.S. Open, the golfer revealed that he recently got brutally scolded by his coach, Pete Cowen.

Like other golfers, Koepka arrived at Oakmont last week and took part in a practice round. His performance in that round probably did not sit well with his coach. In the presser on Thursday, the former World No.1 expressed that he got scolded for around 45 minutes and that Justin Thomas had to come in and check on him.
We worked pretty hard last week. Pete Cowen and Jeff Pierce were on me pretty good, and then Pete got into me again on Monday. In the bunker for about 45 minutes, I just sat there while he scolded me pretty well.
Despite the harsh words from his coach, the LIV Golfer appreciated the words from him. He explained that he needed to hear something like that.
"I'll put it this way: JT thought he had to come check on me in the bunker."

Unfortunately for Koepka, his team surrendered a 3-0 first-period lead. The Oilers came back from 3-0 down to lead 4-3 only for the Panthers to pull back and make it 4-4 and force overtime. However, Leon Draisaitl broke the hearts of Koepka and other Panthers fans as he scored in overtime to give his side a 5-4 win.
