Cleveland Browns fans reckoned Shedeur Sanders’ stock rose after his two-touchdown performance in his debut NFL game. Kevin Stefanski and the Browns coaching staff did not get the memo.

On Monday, Sanders found himself buried in the depth chart once more. It surprised many because the 23-year-old received great praise from Stefanski after the Panthers game.

The way Shedeur played the offense… the way he operated, all things will move forward as we continue to practice and focus on all of our guys’ development and getting these guys ready to play a full season.

ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi reported that veteran Joe Flacco practiced with the first team while Sanders and Dillon Gabriel shared snaps with the second and third tiers. Kenny Pickett, dealing with a hamstring, found himself limited to 7 on 7.

Stefanski and the Browns’ coaching team are still in the process of determining their quarterback for the Eagles fixture. They will decide after a couple of practices in Philly.

Browns fans want to see Shedeur take reps with the first team

It was a hectic offseason for the Browns, with a lot of non-football-related distractions. One scenario remained consistent. Shedeur Sanders did not take a single rep with the first team.

Naturally, it generated ample buzz. Mainstream media questioned Stefanski’s decisions until Sanders threw 14 completions for 138 yards and posted a quarterback rating of 111.9.

Stefanski earned back some of the brownie points that he lost during the offseason. However, his decision to limit Sanders’ practice to the second- and third-string players has fans questioning whether the coaching team is even taking their job seriously.

Sanders definitely won the Browns fans over. The talent was always there—he only needed a chance to prove that he is capable of handling NFL-level pressure.

Shedeur’s got a great arm, very accurate. He threw two great accurate balls and the last ones he went through all of his progression… for a young quarterback to be able to make those reads, made that progression, you know, kudos to him. Like I said, he’s a great quarterback with an bright future.

Browns WR Jerry Jeudy said

Oyefusi tweeted that Sanders took the most reps out of the four quarterbacks on Monday.

Looking back at the practice rep breakdown and I believe this is the first day Shedeur Sanders received the most reps of any QB (5 total sets of team drills, alternated the 2s and 3s w/ Dillon Gabriel). Sounds like it’ll be the starters getting most of the work in joint practices with Philly but still notable coming off his preseason debut.

Sanders was drafted in the fifth round (144th pick overall) by the Browns even after selecting Gabriel two rounds earlier. The Colorado graduate signed a four-year deal with the Browns worth $4.6 million and includes a signing bonus of $447,380.
