Former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe is emerging as one of the 2025 NFL Draft’s most polarizing prospects. Though not projected as a first-round lock, Milroe’s draft stock has seen a huge rise in the last few days as teams look beyond Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders to fill their quarterback troubles.
As per Scout reports, Jalen Milroe brings a rare athletic profile that differentiates him from a generally underwhelming quarterback class. The same has led multiple analysts to see him as a Day 2 pick with first-round potential.
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry recently made headlines with strong praise for Milroe’s athleticism. Berry referred to him as “maybe the only quarterback who’s faster than Lamar Jackson.” At Alabama’s Pro Day, Milroe reportedly ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash—an elite time for any position.
In the past year, with the advent of Jayden Daniels, the dual-threat abilities of a quarterback have become more important than ever. The other main dual-threat QB, Lamar Jackson, made All Pro First Team and finished as a finalist in the MVP race last season.
Milroe finished the 2024 season completing 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. In addition, he added another 720 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. Furthermore, the Pro Day also proved that he has a straight-line speed and acceleration that could group in the same compartment as the above-mentioned two.
He’s a rare physical talent. You just don’t find many quarterbacks with those movement traits. He may be the only one faster than Lamar, which says a lot in today’s NFL.
Andrew Berry added
While Cleveland currently owns the second overall pick, it also holds the first selection on Day 2. With questions surrounding long-term answers at quarterback, the Browns may explore alternatives. The team recently acquired Kenny Pickett and re-signed veteran Joe Flacco, but neither is viewed as a permanent solution.

Nevertheless, Milroe’s draft stock is volatile due to inconsistencies in decision-making and passing accuracy during the 2024 season. Under new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, his development appeared stalled at times.
Pittsburgh Steelers is yet another team keeping Jalen Milroe on the radar
In a recent mock draft by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. with Field Yates, the Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is projected to be picked in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Kiper specifically forecasts that the Pittsburgh Steelers will trade up to the 68th overall pick to secure Milroe. This potential trade would involve the Steelers sending their 2026 third-round pick and the 83rd overall pick in the current draft to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Kiper highlighted that the Steelers have a pressing need for a quarterback. Furthermore, Kiper Jr. also noted the added potential upside Milroe brings as a dual-threat. He drew parallels to the development of quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, suggesting that Milroe’s raw talent.
Furthermore, Kiper noted that even if the Steelers were to sign veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, acquiring Milroe would provide a crucial long-term solution for the franchise. In addition to Mel Kiper Jr., former player Chris Canty also matched Milroe with the Steelers.
They’ve invested a lot of draft capital in the last two years on that group… It feels like the Steelers’ brand of football, by rolling with a quarterback like Jalen Milroe, not just how Milroe plays but in terms of what they want their overall identity to be.

The answers to all these questions won’t be too long now. The NFL Draft is just a week away as Green Bay gets ready to host the event for the first time in history.
