Jerry Jeudy cemented himself as the Browns No. 1 WR by recording over 200 yards against former team with the help of Jameis Winston.

Jerry Jeudy returned to Denver for the first time since his big-money move to the Cleveland Browns in the summer and went off against his former side. Naturally, it ticked off the Broncos fans who weren’t happy.

Jeudy’s best play on the night happened right after Broncos quarterback Bo Nix connected with Marvin Mims Jr. for a 93-yard touchdown. It opened up an 11-point gap between the Broncos and the Browns.

It only took Browns’ quarterback Jameis Winston ten seconds to reduce the deficit. Winston threw a rainbow pass to Jerry Jeudy, who was wide open inside the Broncos’ secondary and ran the length of the field to score a 70-yard touchdown.

He made the TD as dramatic as possible by falling down on his backside, taunting his former team. Waves of boos trickled down from the stands in response to Jeudy’s celebration.

It got worse when Winston found Jeudy for the two-point conversion. After scoring the extra numbers, the former fifth-overall pick egged the Broncos faithful in the classic Shawn Michaels way. Jeudy put his right hand beside his ear and listened to the boos, which made them even edgier than before.

Jerry Jeudy’s historic milestone

It was a performance for the ages. Then again, Winston’s habit of breaking the norm greatly benefitted Jeudy. He only scored one touchdown in the game but had 235 yards from just 9 catches (13 targets), which is 26.1 yards per catch.

Those numbers broke a 16-year record set by Hall of Famer Terrell Owens. While playing for the Dallas Cowboys in 2008, Owens had 213 yards against the San Francisco 49ers (making it the highest receiving number by a player against a team that drafted him). Jeudy now holds the crown with his 235 yards.

Despite the extraordinary performance from the Alabama graduate, the Browns suffered a 32-41 defeat on Monday. It was mainly down to Winston’s three interceptions, including a pick 6.

Winston ended the fixture with 34 completions for 497 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 3 picks. It was the veteran’s fifth 400+ passing yards game—only Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, and Joe Burrow have more amongst active QBs.

The 3-8 Browns only had a 1% chance of qualifying for the playoffs, and it basically diminished after losing to the Broncos. Regardless, head coach Kevin Stefanski perhaps found the core players whom he can build the Browns around next year if the front office doesn’t get rid of him, that is.
