The dangers of a speeding car are unpredictable, and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has learned his lesson. In mid-June, the 23-year-old received two speeding tickets, one for going at 101 mph in a 60 zone in Strongsville and one for going 91 mph in a 65 zone in Medina County.

On July 24th, the Browns’ general manager, Andrew Barry, pointed out that getting those tickets was not smart behaviour from the rookie. In his talk with the reporters, head coach Kevin Stefanski had claimed that he had spoken to Sanders regarding the speeding tickets.

In a press availability after the Browns’ training camp on Friday, the reporters brought out the speeding tickets almost immediately. The rookie knew it was coming, considering the media attention on him and every mistake he made. He said:

Speeding, huh? Yeah, I definitely learned not to drive fast at all. So, I really don’t even drive that much anymore. But I really don’t drive fast at all. So, I definitely follow the rules and I hope everybody learned from my situation, you know, that not drive fast at all.

The untimely speeding ticket has further elevated the media scrutiny of the young quarterback. Furthermore, the speeding tickets have come at a time when his position on the roster has weakened.

Browns aren’t putting Shedeur Sanders in as a starter, but he’s unfazed

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room is one of the tightest in the league, with four mainstream names. Ahead of the draft, the Browns brought back their 2023 hero and veteran quarterback, Joe Flacco, and signed Kenny Pickett from the Steelers.

In the annual player signing meeting, the Browns picked up Oregon Ducks quarterback and record holder Dillon Gabriel ahead of Sanders. Sanders, who found himself in a tangle and a surprising draft slide, was selected in the fifth round. And then there’s Deshaun Watson taking up space.

Despite the lower round pick, Sanders was rumored to have impressed the Browns and might eventually start in the latter half of the season. He even had analysts batting for him to start. As they finish three days in their first week of training camp, Sanders has mostly played with the third and fourth teams.

The former Colorado Buffaloes athlete is, however, unfazed about this, i.e, the limited first team reps. In his media availability, Sanders noted that he cannot delve into something that he has little control over.

He added that the thought as to why this hasn’t even entered his thought process:

I’m not even going to think about that or have that even in my thought process of why it is. It doesn’t make me feel down or it doesn’t make me feel left out or anything because I know who I am as a person. I know who I am as an individual, and I know what I could bring to this team.

Sanders, however, understands that he needs to maximize whatever opportunities that come his way. Kevin Stefanski hasn’t opened up on their plans about Sanders yet. There’s very little clue when the rookie might get a first-team rep. Nevertheless, he has previously noted that he’s impressed with the developments and improvements in Sanders.

The Browns are mostly playing Flacco and Pickett in the starter roles, with seven and five snaps in the 11-on-11 drills, respectively. Dillon Gabriel got one.
