Tyler Huntley became the newest addition to the quarterback carousel in Cleveland. He is set to rub shoulders with Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillion Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders in a crowded Browns quarterback room.
Huntley went undrafted in 2020. The Baltimore Ravens signed him following a successful trial as the backup to Lamar Jackson.
The 27-year-old saw game time in the 2021 and 2022 seasons and even became a Pro Bowler with a 2-2 record in four games. He was cut from the team after five fringe appearances in 2023.
Huntley’s next stop was the Cleveland Browns, where he made the 53-man roster but was released due to a lack of trade interest. He signed with the Ravens as a third-stringer but packed his bags when the Miami Dolphins came calling.
The Dolphins desperately needed a quarterback because Tua Tagovailoa was in the concussion protocol, and Skylar Thompson couldn’t handle the pressure of being a starting quarterback. Huntley completed 64% of his passes, three touchdowns, and three picks in five starts, winning two.
Huntley’s best performance came against the Browns in week 16. He threw one passing touchdown and rushed for another for 225 yards as the Dolphins won 20-3.
Unfortunately, his time in stardom was cut short as Tagovailoa made a full recovery to take over the quarterback job. The Dolphins released Huntley at the end of the season.
Sources: Browns are signing QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, who spent part of last season with Cleveland. With Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel nursing hamstring injuries, and Shedeur Sanders having a sore shoulder, the Browns need another arm. On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced Huntley’s signing with the Browns. Huntley became the sixth contracted quarterback in the Browns’ locker room.
Social media blast Browns for signing Tyler Huntley despite having four active quarterbacks on roster
Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry decided to sign another quarterback because Pickett and Gabriel are nursing hamstring injuries, and Sanders missed training time due to soreness in his shoulder. Huntley is set to join the Browns at their joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.

This move can only be viewed as an insurance policy for any impending disaster. If any of the suffering quarterbacks fail to recover from their woes, then they will settle on Huntley.
It does make sense, but fans are already raising questions about the signing.
I like how Cleveland is the QB graveyard.

When Tyler Huntley gets 1st team reps before Shedeur Sanders this app is going to crash and burn like we’ve never seen before

If the Browns start giving Tyler Huntley reps ahead of Shedeur, the conspiracy theorists are going to be owed an apology.

They now have 5 QBs on their roster heading into their first preseason game 💀 pic.twitter.com/1gVz2cX39q
Browns gotta be the worst organization in the league no? lol why are you signing Tyler Huntley & cutting ties with no one. Are they collecting Qb’s wtf is happening 😂🤣

The Browns just signed Tyler Huntley like he's the missing piece when they're really just missing common sense. Y'all got more QBs than playoff wins this decade, and still don't know who your starter is. Shedeur has the most upside, and instead of letting him cook, y'all are out…

Browns are a complete joke. 4 QB’s and they’re now signing a 5th!

Imagine having 2 QBs on the roster, trading for another, drafting two more, and STILL having to sign a QB. https://t.co/hgzqIT9Is7

The announcement of Huntley’s signing was confirmed on the same day when the Browns released their QB depth chart. Flacco found himself at the number one spot, followed by Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders at four.
On the Browns’ first depth chart of the season, they list their QBs in this order:

2. Kenny Pickett
3. Dillon Gabriel
4. Shedeur Sanders pic.twitter.com/p2hu5Oz9JR
Naturally, it generated a lot of heat on the internet because a section of the fans is rooting for Sanders to become the franchise quarterback. Sanders, once touted as the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft, slid to day three of the draft until the Browns drafted him 144th overall.
Aside from dealing with the quarterback conundrum, the NFL also handed the Browns the second-hardest schedule for the new season. They will play the likes of the Bengals, Steelers, Ravens, Packers, Lions, Vikings, and Bills.
