Things keep on getting worse for the Boston Bruins it seems. The team lost their third straight game on Monday night which left the fans angry. Supporters present at the TD Garden rained down heavy boos as the team suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This 2024-25 season has seen several ups and downs for the team. The previous three games though have gone completely against them. Following a 7-2 crushing loss against the Dallas Stars, the Bruins lost in overtime, a day later to the St. Louis Blues by a score of 3-2.

The Blue Jackets entered this game winless in their last seven road games. This gave some optimism to the fans for a better performance from the Bruins. Unfortunately for them, things did not go out as they planned.

The main difference between the two sides became their clinical finishing. Despite getting several chances in the first period, the Bruins were unable to beat Elvis Merzlikins. On the other hand, the Blue Jackets took their chances and scored three goals in the first period to go 3-0 up.

Charlie Coyle did pull a goal back in the second period to make it 3-1, it was not enough for his side though. The Blue Jackets added two more goals later on to win the game 5-1. Seemingly annoyed by the showing from the team, the fans booed them off the ice after the game.

This defeat has brought more pressure on the shoulders of coach Jim Montgomery. Recently, he came under fire from the fans after having ‘no answer‘ regarding the team’s poor start and performances this season.

Coach Jim Montgomery and Brad Marchand reflect on Bruins 5-1 loss against Blue Jackets

The Boston Bruins‘ 5-1 loss on Monday night has once again raised several questions regarding the future of Coach Jim Montgomery. After the game, he and captain Brad Marchand would both reflect on their thoughts about this performance.

Following this loss, the Bruins are left with an 8-9-3 record in their first 20 games. Despite this, the 55-year-old coach claimed that the team is not in the playoff race yet.

There’s been a couple of wins where I thought maybe we were turning the page. That hasn’t transpired. What you want in the first 20 games, you don’t want to be out of the playoff race.

Jim Montgomery said in the post-game conference

Meanwhile, captain Brad Marchand admitted that the team is not playing better and has to avoid making the same mistakes again and again.

Definitely not happy with the way that things are going. We need to be much better in a lot of areas. You know, mistakes are going to happen in the game, and we’re just kind of compounding them. it’s not acceptable to continue to have the same mistakes… we need to be a lot better.

Brad Marchand said in the post-game conference

The Bruins will now have a two-day break before getting ready to welcome the Utah Hockey Club at the TD Garden on Thursday night. A loss in this game could see the pressure mount even further on Montgomery’s shoulders.
