Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes boldly reacted to manager Ruben Amorim’s claim that the current squad is the ‘worst’ in the club’s history. Moreover, he urged the United players to punch back and get out of their recent slump.

Ruben Amorim has not been enjoying the best of the start to his Manchester United career, after having joined from Sporting CP earlier this season. They have won just seven out of the 16 matches under him. United recently creeped their way into the playoff stages of the Europa League, with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Rangers. Their EPL struggles, however, continue, as they remain 13th on the league table.

Speaking after having suffered his seventh defeat in-charge of Manchester United, Amorim shockingly claimed that the existing squad is the worst in the history of the club. His comments did leave many fuming, with the manager later acknowledging that he should not have said it. However, Amorim was partly correct, with the Red Devils recording their worst-ever start to an EPL season.

Breaking his silence on the manager’s statement, skipper Bruno Fernandes responded by exclaiming that he does not want Ruben Amorim to lose hope in the team. He claimed that Amorim might be referring to Man Utd’s poor position on the EPL table, while speaking about the ‘worst’. Fernandes also added that any player who plays for a club like United faces pressure, and has to have the balls to take it.

When he says ‘the worst team’ in Manchester, he speaks about the position we are in… What we need to do is every time we get punched we need to get up and try to punch back.

Additionally, Bruno Fernandes also stated that Ruben Amorim’s harsh words helped him gain confidence to perform against Ranger, in the UEL most recently. United will be hoping to make it to the last-16 of the competition directly, by securing a win against FCSB next.

Manchester United are yet to make a final decision on redeveloping their existing stadium, Old Trafford, or bringing it down to build a new 100,000-seater stadium. The club has created a team that includes ex-United player Gary Neville, Manchester mayor Andy Burnham and sports administrator Lord Sebastian Coe to oversee the feasibility and cost of the project.

Moreover, the Red Devils are hopeful that they could start working on it by the end of the year. The planned project could also lead to new housing, commercial and public spaces, and is expected to cost around £2 million.
