Judy Murray‘s reaction when she was asked about Emma Raducanu‘s withdrawal from mixed doubles match with Andy Murray in his last Wimbledon created controversy. The 21-year-old Brit responded to that dig in a social media post.

Murray, who earlier this year had announced of his plans to retire after the summer, injured his back during the Queen’s Club Championships. He immediately had surgery and it almost ruined his plans to play at Wimbledon for the one last time. The former World No. 1 withdrew from the singles but played in the men’s doubles with his brother Jamie Murray.

He deemed it best not to play singles due to the possibility of aggravating his injury. He was also set to play mixed doubles, where he was set to partner Raducanu. The 21-year-old, however, withdrew at the last moment due to a sore wrist, inviting criticism from the fans. Judy’s two-word response (“Yes, astonishing”) further created more controversy, though she later clarified that she was taking a dig at the scheduling and not Raducanu.

In a recent Instagram post, Raducanu shared a few pictures of her after her 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 first-round win over Elise Mertens in the Mubadala Open on Tuesday (July 30). When America’s Frances Tiafoe asked her to play mixed doubles with him in the comments, she repeated Judy’s words along with a laughing emoticon.

Andy Murray is not bitter about Emma Raducanu’s last-moment withdrawal

Even though he was expected to get a ‘grand’ farewell at Wimbledon after his final match, Andy Murray was showered with praise after crashing out of the men’s doubles event with Jamie Murray. Andy later stated that he was not frustrated with Emma Raducanu‘s decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles. He also said that he felt special after finishing his Wimbledon career with a doubles match alongside his brother.

I'm not frustrated or bitter about it. I am happy that I got to finish playing at Wimbledon with my brother.
Andy Murray said at a press conference

Raducanu lost to New Zealand’s Lulu Sun in the fourth round at Wimbledon. She then decided to skip the Paris Olympics, where Murray is playing in doubles, to take part in the Citi Open instead.
