Bronny James matched Michael Jordan's rookie 3-point record

Since Bronny James declared for the NBA draft, fans and media have tried to make sense of his decision. The Los Angeles Lakers selected him in the draft and set him on a development path. But even though he was out of the limelight, his critics did not stop taking shots at him.

Those fans and media members let it go during the much-publicized debut alongside his father in the season opener. Soon after that, they restored normalcy and continued to ask questions about the decision by the Lakers.

Everyone sang the same song; Bronny James was not good enough for the NBA. Their criticisms received further fuel when the rookie struggled in the G League. Now, everyone had proof that his lack of development was a major problem.

But as the season progressed, James Jr. started to get his act together. He first started to dominate in the G League. Then JJ Redick rested his starters and gave the keys to the rookie. He exploded to notch a career high against a fully stacked Milwaukee Bucks roster.

The situations surrounding the senior team meant the rookie would not get another opportunity like that. But whenever he did, he tried to make the most of it. Those garbage minute runs ended up netting him nine three-pointers made for the season.

There is still one game to go, but what is surprising is that the statistic matches the rookie season total of another legend, Michael Jordan. His Airness also made nine three-pointers in his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls. Surprising, considering James Jr. was declared a bust on arrival.

Bronny James could send NBA fans into a frenzy if he betters Michael Jordan

The moment this statistic reached social media, some fans pointed out that the rest of Michael Jordan’s statistics would easily surpass Bronny James. Even then, others suggested that the mere fact that the Lakers rookie would match Jordan was in itself a feat.

There is one game left in the regular season. The Los Angeles Lakers will play against a Portland Trail Blazers team who are looking to cap off a good improvement over last season. However, the men in purple and gold can afford to take it easy in the latter parts of the game.

Once the starters have built up a sufficient lead, it could be Bronny James’ chance to knock down a 10th three-pointer. If he does that, lest assured, NBA fans could go into a frenzy knowing that he surpassed Jordan in one statistic in his rookie season.

James Jr. could use momentum to work on game ahead of season two

Bronny James is catching some momentum as his first regular season in the NBA draws to a close. Other than the possibility of playing against the Portland Trail Blazers, the 20-year-old might not get another minute to play this season.

Rookies and role players can only dream of getting any minutes in the playoffs. Even though his minutes slow down, he should not slow his development. The USC alum should look towards working with top trainers and fellow players in the offseason.

Only then can he progress his game enough to have a terrific second season. Next year, he might initially start in the G League. But if his performances are good enough, JJ Redick could insert him in for a few minutes where defense and playmaking might be needed.
