It truly was “The Final Countdown” for Bryan Danielson at AEW WrestleDream. One of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time bid adieu to his full-time career. Danielson squared off against his former BCC teammate, Jon Moxley, for his AEW World Championship. After a brutal encounter, The American Dragon passed out to a chokehold as Mox dethroned him for the belt.
After winning the title at All In, Danielson had explicitly informed fans that his full-time run would end once he lost the championship. However, the legend wasn’t allowed to say goodbye to the fans following the loss. Moxley’s crew of PAC, Marina Shafir, and Claudio Castagnoli swarmed the ring to lay a beatdown on Danielson.
Soon, a conflicted Wheeler Yuta joined them in ruining what was supposed to be an emotional ending. The closing shot saw medical paramedics attending to the 43-year-old star. Days prior to this bout, Danielson detailed how he had lost ‘feeling’ in his legs during his match against Kazuchika Okada on Dynamite. This led fans to believe that his match against Mox would be his last as champion.
Despite suffering from a neck injury, Bryan Danielson fought through the pain to deliver in his final year as a full-time wrestler. From winning the Owen Hart Cup to dethroning Swerve Strickland in London, the two-time WWE Champion overcame the odds. Following the ending, it is certain that he’ll go on a well-deserved break to recover from his health issue. Having said that, it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for The GOAT.
Wrestling fans react to Bryan Danielson’s devastating loss at AEW WrestleDream
As expected, fans poured their hearts out for Bryan Danielson following WrestleDream. The majority of the wrestling community was in shock at the abrupt ending to the match and Danielson’s full-time career. Some fans paid homage to the 43-year-old, while others felt it was an underwhelming conclusion.
A user compared it to Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker‘s undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30. Furthermore, some fans were happy that Danielson could finally go on a break. Meanwhile, others felt that Jon Moxley was the right choice to end his former teammate’s full-time career.
One fan sarcastically implied that Danielson’s two-month reign was not worth ending Swerve Strickland’s title run. In fact, another user backed the claim and suggested that Swerve should’ve been the one to defeat The American Dragon at All In.
