Any athlete generally would prefer if their children followed in their footsteps. Many have tried, while a select few get to taste success like their father or mother did. In LeBron James‘ situation, one son, Bronny James, is in the NBA playing alongside him, while the other, Bryce James, just won a state championship.
Sierra Canyon Trailblazers defeated the Lincoln Trojans to win the CIF Division I state championship. This was Bryce James’ final high school season as he now prepares to start college. He also did not record a stat line worth talking about after finishing with 3 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
But there is a reason why ‘Maximus’ is a four-star recruit after ESPN graded him 80 out of 100. He is no scrub and is scheduled to suit up for the Arizona Wildcats next season. With a state championship under his belt, he currently has the bragging rights.
But fans want to see if he can make it to the NBA on his own. Older brother Bronny James was much criticized for entering the league with an underdeveloped game. To further understand how the two James brothers compare, let us see how their high school stats compare.

When LeBron James moved to Los Angeles, he eyed Sierra Canyon as the school of choice for his two sons. The school has an established basketball program and has a history of developing NBA players. That explains why both sons ended up in their program.
Bronny James primarily plays the guard position whereas his younger brother alternates between guard and forward as per the need of the hour. Below is how they compare after their years playing for the Trailblazers.
Bryce James | Bronny James | |
Points | 8 | 14.1 |
Rebounds | 4.2 | 5.6 |
Assists | – | 2.4 |
From the table above it is evident that Bronny James had a much more productive final season with the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers. That is why ESPN had him ranked 20th in the class of 2023 with a rating of 89. The four-star recruit committed to University of Southern California after receiving five offers from other programs.
The now Los Angeles Lakers rookie though, suffered a cardiac arrest even before his college season started. After he returned, he underperformed, and many suggested he should continue to develop his basketball skills.
State championship bragging rights
Bryce James can now officially claim that he won a state championship. Even though he did not perform to the level he showed at the Hoophall Classic, a championship win is something no one stops talking about.
His older brother though, was in a position to do the same. Bronny James was one of the primary scorers on that team, but COVID disrupted their chances after sporting events were locked out. A reporter asked the younger James if he now had the bragging rights after winning.
He definitely should have had one with COVID and all. I still say it’s one and one.
Bryce James said
This response shows how the brothers love each other. One was not going to undermine the other as he knows without COVID affecting the world, his older brother would have also been a state champion. Now he will prepare to move to Arizona where he will wear the Wildcats threads in his college career.

Then I asked him if he has bragging rights over Bronny now with the state title victory.

He is also looking to be drafted in the NBA but needs to develop his game if a team wants to come calling. Considering that need, it is unlikely that he will be a one-and-done like his older brother. If he does indeed spend two years, fans will be waiting to see if he joins his father and brother in the NBA.
