The Carolina Panthers have made their decision to bench starting quarterback Bryce Young. The same quarterback for whom they traded multiple picks. Now, after throwing three interceptions in his first two games with no touchdowns to speak of, it seems the young quarterback has found himself out of favor.

What has been debated by everyone associated with the NFL is how the new coaching regime came to that decision just after two games.

A source for NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed

This revelation points to the fact that he probably felt the new regime under head coach Dave Canales was committed to fix the issues of the season past and help him improve. Instead, pulling the plug on him after two games was a blow.

Last season, bad offensive line play and a lack of reliable receivers led to a horrific run for the 23-year-old. Many blamed the sub-par offensive schemes of former head coach Frank Reich as being the core problem. While there were others that pointed to the decisions of the front office for dismantling a decent team. This season, the new regime worked their tail off to fix those mistakes.

They spent a lot of money on the offensive line and brought in other offensive pieces to help Bryce Young improve. Despite all that, their No. 1 overall pick threw three interceptions without any touchdowns to show for. Add to that, if one watches the tape, he missed easy throws to his receivers on several occasions. Those issues will divert the questions to the quarterback.

Dave Canales does not reveal owner David Tepper’s influence in Bryce Young benching

The days have long gone when NFL teams give their rookie quarterbacks time to develop and play. In today’s fast-paced environment, players, coaches, and GMs face constant pressure to deliver immediate results. The Carolina Panthers lost one full season and Dave Canales does not want to waste another and potentially cost him his job.

When asked if owner David Tepper had any influence on him benching Young, Canales resorted to not giving any details.

I want to keep that private. I watched the film, I had a thought and we had those discussions.
Dave Canales said as quoted by Ari Meirov

His words do not explicitly confirm that David Tepper helped him make that decision. But he did mention discussing it with him.

This could put Bryce Young into a situation where his NFL career is in jeopardy. This is same owner who possibly sanctioned his team parting with five draft picks and stud receiver DJ Moore to be on board with Canales in this decision. It does not indicate if Young’s time with the Panthers is up, but the former Heisman Trophy winner has to win the top brass’ confidence.

Bryce Young needs to regain his own confidence and focus his efforts to study the game. Practice well and prove why he deserves a second chance, and he might be able to come back. Whether it is with the Carolina Panthers or any other team, is a question only time will answer.
