Bryce Young’s game-winning drive secured a crucial victory over the NFC table toppers, the Los Angeles Rams. On Sunday, Young completed 75% of his passes for 206 yards and threw 3 passing touchdowns.

The Carolina Panthers entered the Week 13 fixture against the LA outfit as massive underdogs. It made sense because the Rams were on a six-game winning streak, led by the MVP favorite quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford orchestrated 4 total touchdowns, which gave the Rams a four-point lead heading into the final nine minutes of the game.

During the subsequent drive, Young, aided by his running back tandem of Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, consumed nearly three minutes of the clock. The defining moment of the third-year signal caller’s season occurred on a 4th & 1 call.

After snapping the ball, Young paused to scan his option and threw a 20-yard pass to rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan for a 43-yard (total yards) touchdown.

The Rams failed to add to their tally, and the Panthers held on for a 31-28 win. CBS Sports reports that Bryce Young’s touchdown pass to McMillan marked his 11th game-winning drive (fifth in 2025) since joining the NFL in 2023. At just 24 years and 128 days old, Young became the youngest player to reach that milestone, beating the previous records held by Josh Allen (24 years, 164 days) and Peyton Manning (24 years, 212 days).

A couple of game weeks ago, Young broke Cam Newton‘s single-game passing yards record. He threw 448 yards on 31 completions and 3 touchdowns. Despite the achievement, Young still needs to do more to be viewed in the same bracket as Newton. The Auburn legend led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015 and also became a league MVP.

Bryce Young is keeping his feet planted on the ground despite upsetting the Rams

Young had a lot of critics during his first two years with the Panthers. And deservedly so, because he constantly ranked near the bottom of every quarterback rating.

Things began to shift toward the end of the 2025 season. He closed out the year with 10 total touchdowns and two wins.

By no means, Young has been a world beater. In fact, his distribution has been questionable despite the wins. He has thrown 200+ yards just three times all year, conceded 9 interceptions and 6 fumbles, and lost the ball 4 times.

Regardless, the win over the Rams was a wake-up call for the rest of the league to take the Panthers seriously.

It was fun. I just trust my guys. There’s no big conversation. No big hoo-rah. I mean, it’s not a big speech. I know this guy’s always ready.

Bryce Young said after the game (H/T: Panthers official transcript)

Young must deliver similar numbers in the remaining games to stand a chance to win not just the NFC South (first time since 2015) but also end the playoff drought (last appearance in 2017).

Week 14 is off/bye for the Panthers. The week after that, they face the New Orleans Saints. In the final three games, the Panthers play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers twice and the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17.

Young was drafted first overall in 2023. He spent three seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide, winning the CFP Trophy in 2020 and the Heisman Trophy in 2021.
