Bryson DeChambeau Says He’s Still “Digesting” LIV Golf Receiving OWGR Points
Bryson DeChambeau and his LIV Golf league mates will receive OWGR points for the first time in their history in the 2026 season.

On Tuesday, the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) granted points to LIV Golf. The top-10 finishers (and ties) will receive these points in the upcoming season. Moments after this announcement, Bryson DeChambeau made his feelings known and expressed that he was still “digesting” this decision.
Unlike other professional tours, LIV Golf did not receive these points. Their previous 54-hole format and limited field sizes saw their application for ranking points in 2023 get rejected.
In the offseason last year, they adapted to the 72-hole format and also increased their field size. On Tuesday, the OWGR body would finally grant them some points.
The major catch in this is that not everyone will receive them. According to the OWGR, there are some areas in which LIV Golf does not meet the criteria required.
For now, only the top-10 finishers (and ties) will get them. Golfers finishing below the 10th position will not receive any points.

The OWGR points are important for qualification in major championships. As LIV Golf did not receive this points previously, it would affect the world rankings of several players which caused them to miss out on the majors.
While Bryson DeChambeau has exemptions into the majors, even his rankings have taken a hit. After the development broke out on Tuesday, the 2-time major champion would speak on this matter with The Mirror. During the conversation, he expressed that he had no idea what to think about it now and was in the process of “digesting” the news.
I haven’t been able to digest it fully. I’ve seen just a potential, or what they’re saying is like the breakdown of points, the top ten. I have no idea really what to think about it now. I’m just digesting it currently… I didn’t know if we were going to get points. I didn’t know if we were. So, at least we’re getting points, right?

DeChambeau, the 2-time major champion, is currently ranked 33rd in the OWGR. Despite limited access to the points previously, his strong performances in the majors in recent years have kept him inside the top-50. Along with Tyrrell Hatton, he is the only LIV Golf member inside the top-50 rankings.
Bryson DeChambeau comments on future with LIV Golf
Following the dramatic return of Brooks Koepka to the PGA Tour, there have been several talks regarding Bryson DeChambeau’s future. On Tuesday, he spoke on this matter once again.

After expressing his thoughts regarding the OWGR situation, DeChambeau told Sam Frost of The Mirror that there has been some progress in the negotiations regarding his contract renewal with LIV Golf.
Yeah, there has been progress made. We, again, are in negotiations, and I want what’s best for the game of golf and for the league, ultimately. We just have to continue to align.

DeChambeau, along with Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith, was offered an opportunity to return to the tour under the Returning Member Program. Under this program, golfers who had been away from the tour for more than two years and had won either The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors would be allowed to be reinstated on the tour.
The American international met this criterion as he had joined LIV Golf in 2022 and won the U.S. Open in 2024. However, he decided to snub this chance and run down his current contract, which goes through the 2026 season.
Bryson DeChambeau recently commented on LIV Golf switching to the 72-hole format
After the 2025 LIV Golf season, the Saudi-funded tour made a major announcement. The tour expressed that they would be adopting a 72-hole format and play 4 rounds of golf from the 2026 season. Bryson DeChambeau recently commented on this.

In an interview with Today’s Golfer ahead of LIV Golf Riyadh this week, the Crushers GC captain claimed that this was not what they had signed up for.
It’s definitely changed away from what we had initially been told it was going to be… Is it what we ultimately signed up for? No. So I think we’re supposed to be different, so I’m a little indifferent to it right now.

Since 2022, LIV Golf had established itself as a 54-hole circuit. Their literal name came from 54 as LIV means 54 in Roman Numerals.
This week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, they will host their first-ever 72-hole tournament. They still will have the no-cut rule, meaning all golfers will get to play the 72 holes.
