After three days of thrilling golf, Bryson DeChambeau slipped a bit in the final round of the Masters Tournament and missed out on the green jacket. In a recent interview, the 2-time major champion reflected on his miss and claimed that seeing Rory McIlroy win the tournament was “inspirational” for him.
The two golfers were the final pairing on Sunday. In June 2024, the two of them were involved in an intense battle at the U.S. Open. McIlroy, who was leading the event, suffered a late collapse.
The former World No.1 missed two range putts near the end which allowed DeChambeau to mount a comeback. The LIV Golfer ended up winning the major championship, finishing 1 shot ahead of McIlroy.
While entering the final round of the 2025 Masters Tournament, McIlroy was not only hoping to finally claim the green jacket and complete the career grand slam, but was also looking to end a 11-year major championship drought.
After birding the 2nd hole, DeChambeau made bogeys on the 3rd and 4th holes in the final round. This saw him slip away from McIlroy. While the Northern Irish golfer kept his cool and did not even talk with his playing partner, DeChambeau struggled and finished the round with a score of 75 and picked up a T5 finish.
McIlroy went on to edge out Justin Rose in the playoff round to claim his first Masters title. He also became just the 6th person to win all 4 major championships.

In an interview with golf insider Tom Hobbs, DeChambeau looked back at this moment and claimed he got inspired by McIlroy’s victory.
We can talk about it all day long and, you know, Rosey’s (Justin Rose) been so close so many times, and numerous others have been close, and seeing Rory get it done was actually more inspirational to me… Somebody has worked so hard to win that tournament for so long, kind of the same thing with me. You know, I feel like I can do the same thing.

Bryson DeChambeau won LIV Golf Korea this year, had his best ever Masters finish, and came T2 at the PGA Championship. But, perhaps his best performance of the season came in The Open, where after a first round 78, his worst ever round in a major, he made an incredible comeback… https://t.co/te9GJ7FZxV pic.twitter.com/z5aJ2eSlWa

In February, DeChambeau expressed confidence regarding winning the Masters Tournament soon in his career. The T5 finish this year was his best performance in this major event.
Following the Masters Tournament, he suffered more major heartbreak as he finished as the runner-up in the PGA Championship and missed the cut at the U.S. Open, where he was the defending champion.
He then had an inspirational comeback in the Open Championship. Following an opening round score of 78, he shot scores of 65, 68 and 64 in the other three rounds to finish T10.
Bryson DeChambeau claims Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods’ influence led to several golfers becoming ‘robots’
During his interview with Tom Hobbs, Bryson DeChambeau spoke about golf greats Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods. In this, the LIV Golfer claimed that their influence led to many golfers becoming ‘robots‘ in their careers.

In the conversation, the Crushers GC captain expressed that he idolized the golf swing of Hogan after watching a video of him on YouTube. He later expressed that like many he tried to be like Woods but then stopped imitating them and went through a personality change.
I think that’s why a lot of players are robots today, because of the likes of Hogan and what Tiger did. Tiger was emotional when he won, obviously, that’s where he let it out. And every other moment, it was just seriousness… And I tried to be like that for so long… Ultimately, I swung so far one way trying to be the stoic person, I realised I couldn’t be that person. I was just going to be somebody different. And it wasn’t really until I was 28 or 29, I’d learned who I really was.

Bryson DeChambeau’s golf game has taken many forms over the years. Like many of us, a lot of that is due to inspiration from players he idolised as a junior. He spoke about that to Flushing It Golf:

Speaking of the 2025 season, DeChambeau had 7 top-10 finishes, which included one win. He finished 3rd in the season-long standings behind Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm.
In recent weeks, there had been rumors regarding his future. With Brooks Koepka leaving LIV Golf recently, there are some wondering that DeChambeau could be the next one. The golfer, however, has many times previously claimed that he is happy to be on LIV Golf and dismissed reports of him leaving them in the future.
