23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace had a strong start to the 2025 Cup season, after securing a top-5 finish at Bowman Gray Stadium and a Duel win during the Daytona Speedweeks. Though Daytona 500 didn’t pan out as he expected, leading some laps gave him good momentum going into the upcoming week’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Bubba Wallace recently shared his feelings about his racing career, the future ahead and eventual retirement in the Rubbin’ is Racing podcast appearance. He pointed out that there will come a time where he won’t be as competitive as his peers and that year, he will look into the mirror to make the final decision.
I think there comes a point where if you feel like your competitiveness starts to fall then it’s like, okay you need to look yourself in the mirror that next season that comes up and be like this could be your last.
Bubba Wallace told Rubbin’ is Racing.
He claimed that he will not remain in the sport longer than it needs to, just for the paycheck and declared that competitiveness will be his prime factor behind retirement decision. Wallace will leave the sport for good once the opportunities start to run out.
I would honestly say I’m not the one to just ride around for a paycheck you know I still want to be competitive. And so when that opportunity runs out then that’ll be it for me.

Bubba Wallace explains what made Helio Castroneves Daytona 500 debut poor
In his appearance in the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Bubba Wallace shared his feelings about Helio Castroneves’ Daytona 500 debut. The four times Indy 500 champion failed to qualify for the race directly and was made to use OEP. His day ended with an early wreck and had to settle for a P39 finish.

Bubba Wallace, while talking about the Trackhouse No:91 cars performance highlighted how bad it was and how the lack of practice session played its part. He then compared Indy 500 and Daytona 500, explaining how IndyCar gives rookies a lot f testing time to perfect racing.
I think about if roles were reversed, I’m not just jumping in the car at the Indy 500. I get a whole month of testing, another month of testing, and then another month on top of that. [Rookie test] Yeah, all this stuff! And NASCAR’s like, ‘Nah, come on in.’ [Run ARCA], yeah you’re going to learn a lot! It’s like, what are we doing?
Bubba Wallace said.
The 23XI driver made a perfect point with the practice argument as it is really hard for drivers from other series to make a move to NASCAR with limited testing. It would be interesting to see if NASCAR would make some changes in the future to make sure such situations can be avoided.
