Since the start of the Next-Gen era in 2022, the biggest point of discussion in the NASCAR garage has been the issues with passing, due to the car’s aerodynamic properties. The drivers are closer than ever on the track and the tiers are more durable, diminishing the opportunities pass. 23XI Racing’s driver Bubba Wallace has offered a popular solution to issue.

Talking about the needs to increase horsepower in order to have more entertaining races like in the past, as NASCAR is discussing making potential changes, he urged the sanctioning body to increase the hp from 750 or from the 670 it is now. Bubba Wallace believes this increase will be more cost efficient and won’t be yet another tweak that could fail.

I mean, we’re 670 now, right? I think if you go in small increments, it’s just like sticking a Band-Aid on something. I’m not asking for [900] but 750 at least, or higher, just to see if it’s as easy and somewhat cost-efficient as they’re saying, and I think I’m reading the comments right, then why not?

Bubba Wallace said on a media session at Nashville.

The TRD driver preposed entering a short track race with the engine with more horsepower and witness how racing changes, instead of waiting around and do more tests. He believes NASCAR Dienst have to scared of anything and should make those big moves regarding hp to make racing better for everyone involved.

Have a test, no, not even a test. Why don’t we all just show up somewhere, wherever our next short track is, and give it more horsepower? If it’s a shitshow, then go from there. But you’re going to get a 720 package, and one driver is going to be like, ‘Oh, I thought it was pretty good! We’re done! Good job!’ No, that’s not the case. So, we need big moves here. What are we scared of?

Bubba Wallace added.

Bubba Wallace explains why NASCAR is waiting around over horsepower increase

During the same discussion, Bubba Wallace explained why he thinks NASCAR is waiting around a decision on horsepower despite even Elton Sawyer hinting at it many times. He believes the wait has been for a new manufacture to enter the sport and since it’s not seemed to be happening at the moment, NASCAR should start thinking of making the big move.

We’ve been saying it for years, we want more horsepower, and we’ve always been told we’re waiting on other manufacturers to come in and they ain’t in! So, let’s do something. Yeah, we need to think.

Bubba Wallace said.

The star driver reckons the sports has momentum on his side with the huge media deals, expansion into different types of tracks and other side of business. Hence it is the best time to make the changes and makes racing exciting again.

We have all the momentum on our side with our sport right now, right? I think bringing something exciting, I think they need to look at it from an exciting standpoint than a worrying standpoint.

Bubba Wallace added.

The No:23 Camaro driver isn’t the first one to ask for these changes and nor he is going to be the last one, considering NASCAR hesitance to make changes to the Next-Gen car. It would be interesting to see how long it would take sanctioning body to make the big move.
