Respecting great players even in the opposition team is a sign of respect, but there’s very little merit behind doing it right before a crucial game like the AFC Divisional fixture. Ed Oliver didn’t seem to get the memo as he compared Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson with NBA legend Kobe Bryant.
The Buffalo Bills defensive tackle faced many great quarterbacks during his time in the NFL and Jackson is undoubtedly on the top end of the list. On Sunday, January 19, the 27-year-old has to be on top of his game to make sure Jackson fails to get into his groove.
Oliver, instead of sending any kind of warning of closing the 2x NFL MVP down, praised him by comparing him to Kobe Bryant. According to Oliver, Lamar has an aura similar to that of Los Angeles Lakers great.

Our coach [Sean McDermott or defensive coordinator Bobby Babich] said something that really stuck with me: ‘He’s like Kobe Bryant… Kobe Bryant’s gonna get his at some point.’ And that was a great analogy. Lamar’s gonna get his at some point. And we know that. And everybody watching knows that.

Jackson has undoubtedly earned respect throughout the league, but Oliver chose the worst possible moment to hype up the potential 2024 NFL MVP.
Lamar Jackson receives further endorsement from Bills players
Oliver isn’t the only one saying great things about Jackson. His veteran teammate and 2x Super Bowl winner, Von Miller, while speaking with Rich Eisen on his show, claimed that the Louisville alumni revolutionized the quarterback position with his way dual-threat capabilities.

There is no other quarterback in the history of the game that has played quarterback like Lamar Jackson… He’s one of the elite passers in the league. He’s one of the elite runners in the league. It’s lightning in a bottle… He’s truly an elite player. I’m a fan of Lamar Jackson.

Despite the words of praise from the veteran pass rusher, he will not give an inch during the game. He revealed, concocting several methods to stop Jackson from using his legs.
Going against Lamar Jackson you don’t want to rush too conservatively, but you don’t want to be too reckless at the same time You just got to play your game… You just gotta rush and be conscious of where you’re rushing and how you’re rushing.

Jackson proved this season that he is an elite quarterback. He completed 316 passes for 4172 yards, 41 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions, along with 139 carries for 915 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns.
Oliver and Miller can certainly make things hard for Jackson. This year he has taken a total of 28 sacks, fumbled the ball 10 times, and lost it on 5 occasions.
