Arsenal hosted Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday. The Gunners went all in as goals from Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz handed them all three points.

Even though Saka played a direct role in all three goals, the Englishman was rather disappointed that he couldn’t claim a hat-trick, that too, his first. Saka opened the scoring in the 34th minute, after getting on the end of an inviting pass across goal by Gabriel Jesus.

He then claimed a brace in the second half, as Monaco played themselves into trouble. After intercepting a pass from Radoslaw Majecki, Saka fired his shot into the back of the net.

Arsenal’s third goal came from a powerful Saka shot as well, although the ball took a generous deflection off of Havertz’s foot. Speaking to the press at full-time, the 23-year-old jokingly blamed Kai Havertz for denying him a hat trick.

He (Havertz) got in the way, but don’t worry. It’s (a hat-trick) coming, it’s on the way.

Saka also won the Player Of The Match award for his dominant display at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta heaps praise on two CRUCIAL players after 3-0 win

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was over the moon after his side picked up an important win in the Champions League. Starting with Bukayo Saka, Arteta also went on to congratulate and praise 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Both players put in a shift on Wednesday night, with Arteta acknowledging them. As for Arsenal’s No. 7, Arteta claimed that he has a habit of surprising the team. Highlighting Saka’s 14 total involvements in the last 14 Champions League games for Arsenal, Arteta admitted that it’s very ‘difficult’ to do what the 23-year-old does, week in, week out.

Myles Lewis-Skelly did so well. He’s one of our own. It’s just a joy to watch him.

Following the game, Lewis-Skelly also expressed his delight at being handed a starting debut by Arteta. Fans on social media heaped praise on Arteta for his management of players and for helping Arsenal to reach third in the Champions League standings and fourth in the PL.

With 13 points from six games, the club is only behind Liverpool and FC Barcelona. Arsenal’s next game is against Everton in the Premier League. In the UCL, Arsenal will take on Dinamo Zagreb in late January.
