Club football returned with a bang to the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal hosted Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Gunners emphatically claimed a 3-0 victory on the night and the win helped them reach 22 points from 12 games.

This puts them level on points with Brighton and Chelsea, while also being within reach of Manchester City. Despite there being three different goal scorers on the night, Bukayo Saka was credited for the majority of the result.

The Englishman’s sublime goal to open the scoring, coupled with his assist to Thomas Partey, earned him the Player of the Match (POTM) award. The 23-year-old also ended the game as the player with the most assists in the Premier League this season.

Saka’s goal was a sight to behold in itself, as the forward danced his way past several Forest defenders before confidently finding the top right corner. The victory meant that Saka became the third-youngest player to reach 100 wins in the English topflight. Partey and Ethan Nwaneri also got their names on the scoresheet.

Mikel Arteta explains why the win against Nottingham Forest was ‘different’

The result against Nottingham Forest meant that Arsenal won a Premier League game for the first time since 5th October! Prior to the game, Arsenal were dealt a significant blow as Mikel Arteta ruled out Ben White with a serious injury, keeping him out indefinitely.

However, at full-time, the manager happily explained why the result feels different than all those in the past.

We’ve been training with 12-13 players and suddenly we had 19. So everything changes. Everyone came back and they feel good.

The Spaniard’s side are now just one point behind Manchester City and can leapfrog them with a positive result, given City fail to overcome Liverpool in the coming matchday.

Arteta also backed star man Bukayo Saka as questions were aimed at the forward’s fitness during the International break. While Saka withdrew from The Three Lions’ squad ahead of the Nations League fixtures, not all were convinced of the same.

Arteta ‘angrily’ announced that the club is willing to produce MRI scan results if needed to prove the veracity of Saka’s injury.
