Bundesliga: Bayer Leverkusen vs Dortmund Player Ratings as Dortmund made it through a game that was an attacker’s fantasy and a defender’s nightmare.

An electrifying start to the match saw both the teams approach the game with intensity. It was thrilling end to end stuff in the first half that had more drama than a Shakespeare’s play. Bayer Leverkusen capitalized on a misunderstanding between Axel Witsel and Guerreiro which led to a goal from Florian Wirtz. Dortmund did not waste any time as they replied promptly with a header from Erling Haaland. But, the drama did not subside as yet. Dortmund thought they came back in to the game with their second goal from Jude Bellingham, but was disallowed owing to a foul in the lead up. Not long after that, Leverkusen came in to the lead with a goal from Patrik Schick.

Just four minutes in to the second half, Julian Brandt equalized to make it 2-2. Just when Dortmund started to put a sense of authority, Diabby scored a superb goal against the run of play. The second half, much like the first half was full of relentless attacking football from both the sides. This constant pressure led to a free-kick and Guerriero made no mistake slotting the ball in to the top right corner to make it 3-3. Dortmund did not leave out any hope on the match as they kept on attacking, which led to a 77th minute penalty which was kind of a the last straw and they made it sure they don’t concede again in the remaining minutes of the game.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN:

Union Berlin vs Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen

Patrik Schick (8/10): He put Leverkusen in the lead with an accurate bottom corner finish. He was also instrumental in many other counter attacks.

Paulinho (7/10): He made some impressive runs in to the box, also contributing to goal creating plays. Goal but But, was average for the remainder of the game.

Florian Wirtz (9/10): He was a live wire all throughout the first half. Not only did he score the first goal, but also assisted the second one.

Moussa Diabby (9/10): He had a good start to the game but his real contribution came in the second half where he scored Leverkusen’s third goal.

Robert Andrich (6/10): Apart from a few interceptions in the middle, he was ineffective for most part of the game.

Demirbay (8/10): Demirbay was one of Leverkusen’s most influential players, helping the team both in defense and offence.

Mitchel Bakker (5/10): He had a game to forget, gave away the ball too many times and his positional play was horrendous.

Jonathan Tah (6/10): He was decent against attacks that came directly at him, but couldn’t negate the opposition’s offence effectively.

Kossounou (6/10): His player marking was off the mark and made too many mistakes for his teams liking.

Jeremy Frimpong (6/10): he lost his battle with Paulinho too often and was ineffective throughout the game. He also gave away the foul that led to Dortmund’s third goal.

Lukas Hradecky (6/10): He had a great chance of keeping Dortmund’s first goal away, but scuffed it.

Subs:

Karim Bellarabi (7/10): He added a bit of urgency to Leverkusen’s attacks, but it was too late.

Lucas Alario: N/A

DORTMUND:

Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland (8/10): It was just another day in the office for Erling Haaland, scoring goals for fun.

Marco Reus (7/10): He had a pretty average game. Apart from a few glimpses of his quality on the ball, he did not offer anything else.

Julian Brandt (8/10): The rating is justified only because of his equalizing goal. His passing was sloppy and has been caught by the opposition far too often.

Mahmoud Dahoud (6/10): He failed to restrict the opposition as most of their attacks came from the left wing.

Axel Witsel (5/10): He had an absolute disaster of a game. Not just giving away balls too often, but also in crucial positions.

Jude Bellingham (6/10): He was energetic, but, unnecessarily ran in to crowd too often and wasted many opportunities that came his way.

Raphael Guerreiro (8/10): Though being not so good in defense, he scored a wonderful free-kick that made a huge difference.

Manuel Akanji (7/10): He was the only defender who did not make a lot of mistakes. He was solid and did his part right, but his colleagues let him down.

Marin Pongracic (6/10): He was the biggest weak-link for Dortmund. His game was full of mistakes and inaccurate passes.

Thomas Meunier (8/10): His first touch was abysmal, but his crossing was of high quality. He found his teammates on multiple occasions through his crosses.

Gregor Kobel (6/10): He did not have any say in all of the goals but his positioning could have been better.

Subs:

Borussia Dortmund

Donny Mallen (8/10): He came in for Axel Witsel and solidified the midfield.

Matts Hummels (7/10): He was put in to secure the lead, and showed his experience in defense.
